Episode 5.05: Run, Cooper, Run!

The two question Cooper who can't remember what happened and claims he is being blackmailed. When Danny and Mike start to investigate, Cooper suspiciously disappears making him look even guiltier. Piper helps the son of one of Sam's big Montecito whales learn how to be "cool" for his upcoming Bar Mitzvah. • 08/02 - Danny and Mike try to help Cooper find who killed a woman and set the scene so that he (Cooper) is the prime suspect. Sam takes care of Cy Lipshitz, known as Long Island's "Brisket King," and his wife wife Beth. The couple is throwing a Bar Mitzvah for their 13-year-old Hershel at the casino and Sam and Delinda will help. Sam enlists Piper's help to take care of Hershel. Expect the "baby-sitting" to not go smootly since Hershel wants to sleep with Piper or get a girlfriend; the kid wants to be a man. Delinda asks Beth some motherly advice. Episode 5.06: When Life Gives You Lemon Bars

• 10/06 - In the spirit of Halloween, Piper dresses up in various costumes to try and scare her fellow staffers. Cooper insists on shadowing Sam for the day while she is trying to lure a new whale to the casino, but his presence scares the potential client away. In order to make it up to Sam, Cooper agrees to let her play in his annual exclusive poker game with his billionaire friends Roger (Roger Mosley, "Magnum P.I.") and Larry (Larry Manetti, "Magnum P.I."). Delinda discovers a wonderful new pastry chef that is sweet on the surface, but after a few days of her sour attitude she wants to fire her. Meanwhile, Mike thinks he has found the woman of his dreams, but when he discovers her past, he has reservations about them being together. Also starring Josh Duhamel. Source: NBC
• 09/01 - This is an Halloween episode so don't be surprised if it's moved at the end of October. However, it was the 10th episode produced this season. Cooper wants to know more about Sam's work. To her displeasure, he wants to shadow her while she takes care of a whale who has been playing in another casino for the past 10 years and has agreed to give Sam a chance. Piper is really into Halloween and even dresses up as a ghoul. We discover that Mike has been dating a teacher named Carley Lauder. The two of them go on a double date with Danny and Delinda. Things go very well between Mike and Carley, to a point he may even think she's the one, but things turn sour when he discovers a secret she's been keeping from him. Episode 5.07: Adventures In The Skin Trade

• 10/08 - Danny and Mike find themselves at a local strip bar for a birthday party, but things go awry when the club owner gets physical with one of the strippers. Always the do-gooder, Delinda begins a citywide campaign advocating for better rights for exotic dancers in Sin City. Elsewhere, Piper enlists Sam's help to find a racy video that she does not want anyone to see. Sam is willing to help, but only if Piper helps her with a whale. Also starring Tom Selleck. Source: NBC

• 07/18 - Mike tries to educate Danny so he will be a better parent. While at a strip club with Mike and Mitch, Danny meets an old friend Angie Corbett. He got to know her when they were in junior high school. Angie now works as a stripper. Things turn ugly when Angie's boss arrives and says that she is late... again. Since Angie got fired and she was scared to go back home, Danny brings her and her 4-year-old son, also named Danny, to his condo. Let's say Delinda won't be too pleased at first but will soon warm up to Angie and her cause: get better work perks for strippers. Angie and her stripper friends will go on strike! Danny tries to help Angie get her life back in order. Sam takes care of a rich whale who dresses like a tire salesman. Sam will go shopping with her whale. Episode 5.08: My Uncle's a Gas
Airdate: November 9, 2007

• 07/02 - Danny, who's been sleeping on his office couch for a while in order to catch up on some work, dreams that the casino is broke and that Delinda delivers a Baby Mike. Danny must deal with Bob Casey, a fire fighter who is there for an inspection as one of the Montecito's latest campaign broke a few fire codes. Since Danny is too busy, Delinda tries to convince Sam to come to some baby classes with her. There is a contest where participants have to keep one hand on a car for as long as possible in order to win it. One contestant may be cheating as after 55 hours she still looks refreshed. One of Danny's uncle is at the casino. Danny tries to find a way to throw him out. Cooper and Mitch also appear. Source: SpoilerFix.com

Episode 5.09: The High Price Of Gas
Airdate: November 16, 2007

• 07/13 - The episode opens with people lying on the floor of the casino. They are just breathing, not moving much. When Danny comes to, he sees a fire fighter wearing a gas mask and telling him to stay on the floor until the doctors check him out. The casino was robbed and to do so, robbers used gas. Mike and Danny try to find the robbers. Later, Danny calls a meeting with the presidents of operations of other hotels and casinos as the gassing and robbery hurt more than just the Montecito. A few casinos have about 50% cancellations, the airport is empty, etc. Of course, Danny as an idea to resolve the situation. Cooper asks new surveillance tech Oscar to track down where Sam's biggest players like to go, in which room they stay, etc. Sam is at a concert with two rather young whales. • 08/11 - A matchmaker for the wealthy, Regina Fairmont, is at the Montecito. Sam tries to enlist Regina's help to get a rich man. Regina sets a date between Sam and a chubby little man named Bob Greene. The latter is immediately smitten but he's not Sam's style at all, plus Sam is not really looking for someone to be with. Danny and Mike keep an eye on a man named Peter Grant and the mysterious woman who is accompanying him. The woman has a past with Cooper. Two Secret Service agents are at the casino and it doesn't look like they are there for pleasure. If she hasn't been introduced in a previous episode, we will meet Danny's assistant, Andrea. Episode 5.11: I Could Eat a Horse

• 09/10 - Sam takes care of couple Sherry and Rodney. Sherry used to be slightly overweight like her husband but has lost many pounds since she decided she wanted to fit in her grandmother's wedding dress. When Sherry leaves Sam and Rodney alone, the latter admits to Sam that he doesn't think he can go through with the wedding because he prefers bigger women. Piper freaks out when William, a musician she knows, drops by the casino. Danny and Mike drive to stables where horses are to be auctioned. It looks like they are there to buy a horse for Cooper's ranch. Thing is Mike is allergic to horses! Delinda is still trying to find a chef to replace Wolfgang. Mitch also appears. Episode 5.12: A Cannon Carol
Airdate: December 7, 2007

• 09/16 - This episode will be a sort of A Christmas Carol or What a Wonderful Life, where "Christmas" versions of Sam and Piper as well as a spirit for Christmas to come show Mike what life at the Montecito would be like without him and what the Christmas spirit is all about. This adventure starts when Mike hits his head when falling down after trying to fix the star on top of his Christmas tree. Sam tries to bring back impulsive Linus Phelps, a 40-year-old whale, to the tables after Helen, a woman who is trying to get people to help the needy, convinced him to spend his money elsewhere. Piper and Delinda took care of the Christmas display in the casino and it is really popular, a little too popular (especially since their Santa is rather hot). Episode 5.13: Secrets, Lies and Lamaze

• 10/09 - Piper takes care of an annoying family from Kansas who wants a picture with Piper in front of the slot machine just before they leave Vegas. They convince Piper to let the 18-year-old daugher pull the handle for the picture. They get a beautiful redhead to snap the picture, who turns out to be Lisa Eddy, a Gaming Enforcement Officer and old friend of Danny's. She tells him the Montecito has a choice of paying a $1 million dollar fine or firing Piper. Danny and Delinda attend parenting classes. They meet another couple there whom Delinda tries to befriend but when they have the couple over for dinner, everything about the other couple makes Danny and Delinda feel inferior, from past football experience to baby plans and housing. Vanessa Hudgens may have a job as a photographer ahead of her. The High School Musical eighteen year old pint-sized hottie rocked Disney's world with some racy photos that emerged on the internet earlier this month and now ex boyfriend Adam O'Neal claims that she sent him photos three years ago. If that proves accurate that would mean that she was only fifteen and she has a habit of snapping photos of herself nude and then e-mailing them to her boyfriends. Not a good move when you are a world wide star.

The National Enquirer reports that they have spoken with the ex boyfriend and he delivered plenty of details. The Enquirer reports: Adam says he met Vanessa at an acting audition. "She was 15 and I was a year older," Adam told the weekly entertainment magazine. "I asked her out on a date and we went to a movie - . "Her parents were pretty strict, so we only got to hang out maybe three times a week, he continued. "We were together for three months and I quickly realized how ambitious she was. Becoming an actress was all that was on her mind."

"Then, just before Christmas 2003 she came to a party at a friend's house — and dumped me. She told me she'd hooked up with an ex-boyfriend three days earlier." O'Neal added, "I was shattered when she told me she'd cheated on me. But she was a pretty crazy girl, and she played with me off and on for the rest of the evening. One minute she'd tell me again it was over — the next she'd be kissing and touching me. "Finally I'd had enough. I told her, 'You broke up with me, and now you're toying with me. You need to go.'" The he claims that three weeks later she e-mailed him the snap and he was shocked.

The most humorous thing of the story is Adam's response - he e-mailed back "Thank You!" Now the stunner - he says that the photo that is floating around is the same exact one she sent him - which would mean that she is only fifteen in the photo andnot eighteen as previously reported. The nightmare continues for Vanessa Hudgens.

Well, as far as HD DVD vs. Blu-ray goes, it looks like we've pretty much passed the point of no return now; with each passing day it seems less and less likely that a compromise will be reached on a next-gen format. The ongoing peace talks between the two camps, which have been on-again, off-again for months now, seem to have finally dissolved. It's disappointing, but however you feel about the fact that the HD DVD and Blu-ray factions squandered countless chances to make it right and come together, it looks like in just a few short months they're going to be duking it out mano a mano right in our livingrooms. There may not be a lot we can do to fight back - apart from refusing to adopt either format out of sheer spite of their pigheadedness - but no matter what we might as well at least arm ourselves with the knowledge necessary to understand the nature of the situation at hand.

Here's the background:

Philips's development of the Laserdisc in 1969 yielded many of the technologies Sony carried over and adopted when they partnered with Philips to create a little something called the CD way back in '79. Both companies were hard at work together once again in the early 1990s on a new high-density disc called the MultiMedia Compact Disc (MMCD-original name, guys), but their format was eventually more or less abandoned in favor of Toshiba's competing Super Density Disc (SD), which had the vast majority of backers at the time, such as Hitachi, Matsushita (Panasonic), Mitsubishi, Pioneer, Thomson, and Time Warner.

The two factions cut a deal, brokered by IBM president Lou Gerstner, on a new format: DVD. Toshiba wound up on top after the dust settled in 1995/1996, and Sony and Philips, who weren't cut in on the standard (and royalties) nearly as much as they'd have liked, immediately started work on a next gen system. The Professional Disc for DATA (aka PDD or ProDATA), which was based on an optical disc system Sony had already been developing in the side, would eventually become the Blu-ray disc. Toshiba, not to be outdone by the pair, also started work on a next gen system, the Advanced Optical Disc, which eventually evolved into the HD DVD. After thirty-five years of optical audio/video disc development we're back where we were years ago: two money-grubbing factions fighting each other and threatening to wreak havoc on the consumer electronics industry. Apparently history really does repeat itself.

So here's the technical nitty gritty before we drop the graphs n' charts on ya. Both systems use the same kind of 405nm wavelength blue-violet laser, but their optics differ in two ways. Since the Blu-ray disc has a tighter track pitch (the single thread of data that spirals from the inside of the disc all the way out—think grooves on a 12-inch vinyl single vs. an Elvis Costello full-length album), it can hold more pits (those microscopic 0s and 1s) on the same size disc as HD DVD even with a laser of the same wavelength.

The differing track pitch of the Blu-ray disc makes its pickup apertures differ, however—0.65 for HD DVD vs. 0.85 for Blu-ray—thus also making the two pickups technically incompatible despite using lasers of the same type. HD DVD discs also have a different surface layer (the clear plastic layer on the surface of the data—what you get fingerprints and scratches on) from Blu-ray discs. HD DVD use a 0.6 mm-thick surface layer, the same as DVD, while Blu-ray has a much smaller 0.1mm layer to help enable the laser to focus with that 0.85 aperture.

Herein lies the issues associated with the higher cost of Blu-ray discs. This thinner surface layer is what makes the discs cost more; because Blu-ray discs do not share the same surface layer thickness of DVDs, costly production facilities must be modified or replaced in order to produce the discs. A special hard coating must also be applied to Blu-ray discs, so their surface is sufficiently resilient enough to protect the data a mere 0.1mm beneath—this also drives the cost up. The added benefit of keeping the data layer closer to the surface, however, is more room for extra layers.

So now that you know why Blu-ray discs cost more and why Sony/Philips and Toshiba are all harshing on one another so much, we can get to the really important stuff: the numbers, and who's supporting who.

Other interesting facts:

• The Nichi Corporation, who holds the design patents to the Blu-ray's laser system, sits as an associate member of the HD DVD Promotion Group.
• Even though Apple sits on the Blu-ray Board of Directors, its DVD Studio Pro software supports authoring HD DVD media.
• Blu-ray, unlike HD DVD, requires a hard coating on its discs because it's 0.5m closer to the surface. The polymer coating it uses, called Durabis, was developed by TDK and is supposedly extremely resilient and fingerprint resistant.
• The Java platform is mandatory on Blu-ray as it's the standard for menus/multimedia (i.e. all Blu-ray systems must support JVM)
• Though Microsoft has not officially sided with either format, it has a number of long-standing IP cross-licensing deals with Toshiba. HD DVD systems will run Windows CE; the standard is currently the only next-gen optical standard with announced support in Longhorn, and an HD DVD version of the Xbox 360 is rumored for the future.
• The first consumer Blu-ray device in the US market is expected to be the PlayStation 3.

The Film:
Why would anyone make a sequel to Wrong Turn? That was the question burning in my brain when I heard there would be a follow-up to the 2003 horror flick that was mildly entertaining, but not exactly a film destined to make the history books. My only two interests in watching Wrong Turn 2: Dead End was the fact that Henry Rollins was in it, and that it would be so bad I could have fun eviscerating the damn thing. But much to my surprise, WT2 wasn't half bad. In fact, it was really pretty good.

The first Wrong Turn found a group of six, unusually attractive people stranded in the woods of West Virginia, where they were stalked, killed and devoured by a clan of inbred mutants. The first film borrowed heavily from 1970s horror films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, with a touch of that one X-Files episode about the inbreeds who kept their mother in a dresser drawer. Not a great film, Wrong Turn was entertaining for what it was, and far superior to much of the crappy horror films that have plagued this decade (garbage like the new Texas Chainsaw movies and Turistas).

Rather than pick up where the first film left off, Wrong Turn 2 is its own separate beast. Still set in the backwoods of West Virginia, WT2 starts off with former American Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell, starring as herself, tooling around the back roads in red Mustang convertible. Kimberly is a cast member of Ultimate Survivalist, a new reality television series being shot in West Virginia, and as she races to the location, she slams into one of the Family. Thoroughly freaked out by the accident, Kimberly goes to the aid of the mutant freak, only to fall victim to a fiendish trap that culminates in a wonderful gut-splattering sequence that serves to get WT2 off to a great start.

If the opening sequence of WT2 was all it had to offer, it would still be head and shoulders about crap like Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. But things begin to pick up steam as we are introduced to the cast and crew of Ultimate Survivalist, a ridiculous Survivor-type show, the premise of which deals with a six contestants trying to stay alive after a make-believe apocalypse. Henry Rollins, chewing up every scene, co-stars as Dale Murphy, a retired Marine badass, and host of the show. The contestants appear to be a mix of both reality show and hack-'em-and-stack-'em horror cliches, the two of which are surprisingly similar. There is Jake (Texas Battle), the ex-jock still looking for a shot at glory, Nina (Erica Leehrsen), the moody goth girl who hates life and everything about it, and Jonesy (Steve Braun), a second-rate extreme sports jackass. The rest of the crew is made up of a trio of expendable hotties, Amber (Daniella Alonso), the Iraq War veteran, Elena (Crystal Lowe), the trampy sexpot who will do anything to be a star, and Mara (Aleska Palladino), the girlfriend of Ultimate Survivalist director M (Matthew Holmes), and a last-minute substitute for Kimberly Caldwell, who of course is slow cooking on a grill. Once the cast of characters has been introduced, and the rules of the contest are delivered in spot-on, a hilarious send up of other reality shows, the fun really begins. It isn't giving too much away to reveal that the mutants stalk and kill our motley assortment of heroes, but the fun in watching films of this nature is seeing how people are disposed of. And since this is the "unrated" version we're talking about, WT2 manages to deliver the sort of chop-n-slop effects that defined 1980s horror films.

Make no mistake about it, Shoot 'Em Up is one of those films that will have no middle ground whatsoever--audiences will either love it or hate. The lowbrow-loving fans of ridiculous, over-the-top action fare like the first Transporter, Running Scared, and Smokin' Aces are the core audience for this flick; but even they might be taken aback by the balls-out orgy of violence that Shoot 'Em Up splatters across the screen for 80 minutes. And of course there will be the naysayers who see the seemingly endless carnage that writer-director Michael Davis revels in, and condemn the movie for the gleeful way it gives rein to death and destruction, never once recognizing the near-brilliance of Shoot 'Em Up. The key to really understanding Davis' film--either as a reason to love it, hate it, or merely get a grasp for what is really going on--is to understand it for what it is. And what Shoot 'Em Up is, once you get right down to it, is a Looney Tunes cartoon done over as a blood-splattered, bullet-riddled action film.

Clive Owen stars as Smith, an enigmatic homeless man with a taste for carrots, who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when a pregnant woman fleeing for her life runs past him. Unable to sit idly by as a small army of armed killers pursue the shrieking lass, Smith decides to get involved, leading to a brutal shoot-out that never quite pauses, even as Smith helps deliver the baby. Enter Paul Giamatti as Hertz, the cold-blooded leader of the killers pursuing the woman and her freshly-delivered baby and, more importantly, Elmer Fudd to Owen's Bugs Bunny. Hertz even calls Smith a "wascally wabbit," and understanding that Giamatti is Elmer Fudd and Owen is Bugs Bunny is crucial to truly appreciating Shoot 'Em Up.

When the nameless mother catches a stray bullet in the head, Smith is left to his own devices as he takes off running from Hertz. Enlisting the aid of DQ (Monica Bellucci), a hooker with a heart of gold, Smith cuts a bloody swath through a never-ending roster of expendable henchmen as he tries to figure out who wants the baby dead, and why. With every bit of eye-rollingly silly exposition that takes the audience once step closer to figuring out the absurd plot, there thankfully comes another bit of violent action that goes further over the top, surpassing anything served up by other films of this nature. Between the shooting and the killing and the killing and the shooting, the plot reveals a sinister scheme involving a baby factory and a conspiracy theory that is just plain laughable. But that's okay, because you are supposed to laugh--as well as cheer--as Shoot 'Em Up delivers one check-your-brain-at-the-door action sequence after another. Just when you think the you've seen it all as Smith throws a hump into DQ while laying waste to a team of gunmen, you realize that was just foreplay for when Smith gets in a gun battle with another small army, while parachuting from a plane.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE THE SEEKER FROM DVDTALK

Between now and February three movie studios have armed themselves with family-oriented epics to sweep up whatever coin has been left behind by the likes of the "Narnia" franchise and especially "Harry Potter." It's an awfully transparent way to conduct business, but hey, that's Hollywood.

On his 14th birthday, Will Stanton (Alexander Ludwig) finds he's the savior of the universe; a boy entrusted with preserving the forces of the Light (including Ian McShane and Frances Conroy) against the growing persistence of the Dark (led by Christopher Eccleston). Uncomfortable with his new powers, Will hunts for special signs and artifacts to help the cause, bending time to achieve his quest to become the great power on which so many are depending to help banish the Dark forever.

The first "alternate world" production to reach theaters is "The Seeker" (the others being December's "Golden Compass" and February's "Spiderwick Chronicles"), an adaptation of the popular 70's fantasy books written by Susan Cooper. Not having had the pleasure of reading the source material, "Seeker" holds some high-flying aspirations to become a snappy fantastical franchise, yet a majority of it was lost on me. I can only imagine I will not be alone in that reaction.

The ultimate question is, was the movie purposefully made into a blur to play directly into the pockets of the fans, or do we chalk this up to standard-issue directorial incompetence? I vote the latter, since helmer David L. Cunningham doesn't exhibit much skill gluing sequences together in "Seeker." Cunningham is thirsting for a more visually spastic direction, pumping up the light shows and overtaxing smoke machines to give "Seeker" otherworldly menace. Frankly, it looks more like Duran Duran's "Wild Boys" video.

On one side we have a director with a sweet tooth for frame clutter and an exasperating reliance on clich�d artifice; on the other side, a script that requires a PHD in "Dark is Rising" backstory, which pulls the film in a far more lethargic direction. The exposition is piled dangerously high in "Seeker," threatening to suffocate the film under the mass of characters and histories the film fails to properly introduce. Watching the feature stop itself over and over to carefully explain just what in the hell is going on is tiring, making me reflect fondly on how the "Harry Potter" films were executed to Muggles like me. It doesn't have to be a flawless immersion, just engaging. "Seeker" doesn't invite the audience to participate in the fun. Instead the feature drones on about events and people we barely understand in the first place.

The Movie

Operatic is not nearly a word large enough to describe Scarface, director Brian DePalma's coked-out epic of Eighties excess. Fueled by future manic auteur Oliver Stone's gonzo screenplay, bringing Ben Hecht's early Thirties gangland film into then-modern day Miami, and Al Pacino's towering, iconic performance as the Cuban immigrant who rises from the gutter to the top of Miami's brutal drug trade, it's a film whose legend has only grown in the ensuing decades, thanks largely to being embraced by Hispanic and African-American rap artists, as well as a surge in popularity for crime films � gaudy, gory and gloriously debauched, Scarface is a film very much of and slightly ahead of its time.

Not so much updating as obliterating the 1932 Howard Hawks film, Stone, DePalma and Pacino stretch their widescreen canvas to the breaking point, somehow managing to impart an epic, continent-bounding story of rags-to-riches-to-massive piles of blow without once straining to fit every last scrap of narrative in; at nearly three hours, Scarface unfolds at a luxurious pace, likely too slowly for some, who would rather DePalma dispense with the character studies and get to the adrenaline-charged set pieces. Some of the film's lugubriousness owes to the fact that DePalma, in a move that somewhat smacks of latent racism, elected to use very few Hispanic or Latino actors, relying instead on heavily made-up Caucasians whose mangled, dodgy Cuban accents provide an unintentional element of camp to the otherwise deadly serious proceedings. There are a few actors � Robert Loggia, F. Murray Abraham, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, even Pacino � who are more frequent offenders, but hey, you're not watching Scarface for a meticulous attention to detail, right?

No, you're watching to involve yourself in the old-as-time yet still oddly effective story of a man raising himself from nothing to a position of tremendous influence: Tony Montana (Pacino) is introduced to the audience in the midst of an interrogation, fresh from a Cuban refugee boat. It's the dawn of the 1980s and Fidel Castro has allowed several thousand Cubans to escape to the Florida coasts � it sounds like a noble gesture, but as the opening crawl explains, many of the boats were infested with vicious criminals that the dictator was happy to be rid of. Tony and his best friend, Manny Ribera (Steven Bauer) waste little time ingratiating themselves with friends in high places, carrying out a hit during chaotic riots in a temporary Cuban shantytown.

After earning their freedom, Tony and Manny befriend local drug kingpin Frank Lopez (Loggia), whose frigid wife Elvira Hancock (an often over-looked Michelle Pfeiffer) hypnotizes Tony, a voracious thug with his sights set on being the biggest, baddest and richest narcotics trafficker in Florida. In short order, Tony is scaling the ladder, climbing ever higher in the ranks of Frank's organization, increasing his wealth and becoming ever more ruthless in his acquisition of power, becoming a man feared by his estranged family, which includes kid sister Gina (Mastrantonio) and his distrustful Mama (Miriam Colon).

Tony's meteoric rise to the top of the Miami drug game is, as expected, following by his swift tumble from grace, a fall precipitated by an increased paranoia stemming from staggering cocaine abuse � in the film's latter third, cocaine, profanity and bullets flies with equal �lan; Tony Montana is brought low by his ambition, driven to his knees by insulating himself from his friends and his family, his world dissolving in a blizzard of white powder. What's often lost amid all of the blood, powder and fury in Scarface is that Stone weaved a cautionary tale about the corrosive nature of drugs (cocaine, in particular) into the fabric of this otherwise by-the-numbers story-line; sure, Tony is a hero to a generation of rappers, wannabe thugs and posturing suburban teens, but he's also a symbol of a decade that celebrated having too much of a good thing. The Eighties have a number of films that perfectly capture the hedonistic, live-fast-die-young aesthetic and Scarface is certainly among the best.

While its obscured good intentions and surprisingly moral message can make revisiting the film worthwhile, there are also aspects that can wear on those experiencing this landmark work for the first time � the coarse language, startling bursts of violence and pat third act can leave some feeling as though they've been battered about the head for almost three hours; DePalma is far from a subtle filmmaker, but I'd argue that for this film, his ceaseless approach works in favor of the material. If you're uncomfortable with more than a few utterances of the word "fuck," you'd probably do well to pick up something else up off the shelf. However, if you've always been curious as to what the fuss is all about, there's no better place to start exploring Scarface than with this latest DVD incarnation. Big, over-the-top and gaudy to a fault? Sure � but it's also one of the most riveting, exhilarating and passionate works of art of the last two decades.

Robert Harmon's 1986 film "The Hitcher" wasn't a groundbreaking suspense creation, but carved out a name for itself on the cult film circuit because it plunged head-first into nastiness. Eric Red's screenplay didn't budge when it came time to dish out death; coldly serving up some rather vivid horror set-pieces that are easily spotted as the genesis behind the 2007 remake.

On their way to a spring break destination, couple Grace (Sophia Bush, TV's "One Tree Hill") and Jim (Zachary Knighton, "The Prince & Me") hit the road in high spirits. Things turn ugly quickly when the two meet up with John Ryder (Sean Bean, "Lord of the Rings"), a stranded motorist who is looking for a ride. While Jim welcomes Ryder into their car, Grace is more skeptical, and her fears are proven true when Ryder unleashes his murderous wrath on the couple.

"Hitcher" is the latest production from Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes remake factory, the team behind the recent takes on "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Amityville Horror." Both of the aforementioned films were disgraceful in their desperation for wildly overcalculated cinematographic lunges and brain-dead direction. Unbelievably, "Hitcher 2.0" doesn't stab to the same tune, even with many similar technical ingredients in the bubbling pot.

Director Dave Meyers is a music-video maestro without any big screen experience. While that traditionally is enough to burn down the theater in protest, Meyers appears to appreciate the basic fundamentals of genre filmmaking, and lets his "Hitcher" out to play, instead of suffocating the whole thing in hip visuals and flash-cut edit rhythms. Save for one moronic attempt at a body-mounted camera on Knighton, Meyers keeps the visual artifice at a bare minimum, even cooling the genre's recent reliance on boo-scares to power the thrill engine. It's an unexpectedly tame directorial effort, and I can't believe this squeaked by under Michael "edits within the edits" Bay's watch.

The fact that this "Hitcher" is a little more patient with itself doesn't exactly mean the film has elevated in class. Red's screenplay credit still stands here since Bay and his team haven't changed much in the 21 years since the original film. The blistering pace is retained quite wonderfully for the remake. Meyers keeps the momentum whirring at just the right level of restlessness, doling out the chills swiftly, but effectively. Again, this is not an artistic piece of direction, but a confident one.

The new "Hitcher" respects what propelled the first film: that clammy feeling of hopelessness and survival as unstoppable evil is stalking you, and there's zero explanation why. Meyers is wise to not to fiddle much with the original's framework, instead coasting on the reason the 1986 picture is still spoken of highly today: its dread.

The biggest alteration is found in the lead character...or characters I should write. What was once a skittish C. Thomas Howell is now Bush and Knighton. The change actually pierces the tension, since the two actors spend most of their time explaining the obvious to each other ("He's after us!") instead of the letting the anxiety guide the scenes.

Next go and download a trial version of Newsleecher from www.newsleecher.com or buy the full version. Next install newsleecher and then go sign in to newzbin and from there choose what you want from there list and download the file which is called a .nzb file it should open up newsleecher with the files and it should start to download the file. When it is done downloading you should have it in your hard drive. For movies it should give you a lot of choices for channels I usually go to the channel with the most users on the channel when searching for movies and other files. When you enter a channel if it is for movies and they say they have movies then you click on the channel and on some channels they have servers which are other users who share movies and other files so to see what a server has you type in whatever the trigger is for that server. A trigger usually starts with /ctcp. When you type the trigger it shows what files you have to choose from you find the movie you want and click it, it either lets you get the file and start downloading or it puts you in queue which means you are to wait like you are waiting in a line so you have to wait till they are all done then you can download the movie from them. That’s basically it. Oh yeah and you can chat with a lot of other put there too.

The next way is a very dangerous way to get your free movies and that is by going to the website www.zeropaid.com and download one of the p2p programs which stands for peer2peer which is very dangerous because the police and government prosecute people who are uploading from p2p programs mostly and some cable companies will shut off your service if you are downloading too much. I put in Halloween and I got 573 files so the search I put was not narrow enough though I did find what I wanted and that was the new movie Halloween from Rob Zombie which was leeched from the studio and is now available on bit torrent or newsgroups which is what number 1 was. So I clicked on the file that is the third one down and has 573 s which means seeds which are people who have the full file and are sharing upload speed for you and it has 3398 l which means leaches which are just people who have part of the movie and are still downloading the file. Click on the file you want I wanted the file Halloween.2007.WORKPRINT_DVD-FUA_INT so when you click on the file it asks if you want to download the file click on it to download the file and then open the file and it should open in the program you downloaded for bit torrent like for me it opened in Azureus and it should then start to download but while it is downloading you need to be uploading it too so that is where you can get in to trouble because if you are getting the file then you should not get in to trouble but if you are sharing the file which with bit torrent you do then you could get into some major trouble.

I used to spend 25-30 dollars for one PPV for wrestling back when it was 25-30 dollars for that PPV now the raised the price to 35-40 dollars for a PPV that sucks so I said never again. I have Dish Network and even though I live in a condo that has windows in the patio I still receive most of the channels for free from Dish Network and here is how. I heard online about FTA which stands for Free To Air broadcasts which is basically channels that satellites get that are free and don’t charge anything to use it but they are channels like NASA channel which barely anyone watches so I said that might be cool so I started reading up on it then I read from a website named Al7bar.tk which you can view at www.Al7bar.tk that you can use those receivers that are FTA receivers and use them on Dish Network and receiving not only the basic channels but all the channels that Dish Network has to offer including the porn channels and the PPV channels.

When I read that I went where can I buy one so I searched out where to buy FTA receivers and found a cheap site that sells them online and bought one I bought a Viewsat from http://www.gosatellite.net/ and it was under 100 dollars which at first I was a little resistant to buy it because 100 dollars is a lot to me but then I figured if I was paying 25-30 dollars per month just on PPV alone that would mean I would be paying 360 dollars a year on PPV which is already more than what this box would cost for free PPV and free porn I was sold.

So I bought it and hooked it up to my satellite and was happy for 6 months then I bought from www.bestbuy.com a TV tuner card that is called the WINTV PVR that I was going to use with my cable box and hooked it up but it wasn’t worth the money I spent since I only had a few channels on digital cable and most were blocked by the cable company any ways.

So I was about to get rid of the TV tuner when I decided to try to hook the box up to the receiver and use Windows Media Center to view it and I found out that I worked so I hooked it up to the computer and then I hooked up the remote that came with the WINTV box and then I went and looked to see if the PPV showed up and it did and so did the porn channels and all the channels that Dish Network had all showed up except for the HD channels because the tuner is not HD compatible yet.

"Feel the Noise" explores the heavy demands of crime, family, and the music business, and it seems intended for those who find "Hannah Montana" too challenging.

Rob (Omarion Grandberry) is an aspiring rapper in deep trouble with local New York hoodlums. Out of desperation, Rob's mother sends him to Puerto Rico to keep out of trouble living with his father (Giancarlo Esposito). Once there, Rob is introduced by his half-brother Javi (Victor Rasuk) to the sounds of Reggaeton and the delights of local dancer Mimi (Melonie Diaz). When Rob and Javi team up to produce their own music, the pressures of the artistic process threaten to break them up, leaving Rob to either fight for his dream or fight to survive the streets.

"Noise" isn't so much a feature film as it is an infomercial for Reggaeton, an underground musical style that combines the apathy of hip-hop with the shoot-yourself-in-the-face repetition of reggae. From the samples provided in the movie, Reggaeton is basically one loop of beats repeated 1000 times, and preferably performed while wearing something fiercely colored that represents Puerto Rican pride and can be spotted from space. "Noise" contends that this is the next wave of cool; a musical movement that will erupt violently from Puerto Rico and decimate the fragile minds of music snobs around the globe. I don't doubt its hipster appeal, but "Noise" reaches for the throat trying to convince the viewer that Reggaeton is the top of the pops. I still came out unconvinced.

It's a crying shame Reggaeton has such a lousy advocate in "Feel the Noise." This is a putrid music-centric picture, assembling the bare minimum of story and filmmaking coherence to backdrop tuneless singles and hilarious passes at dance choreography (where the participants just dry hump while the females tousle their hair every 10 seconds). Director Alejandro Chomski is lost at sea with "Noise," assembling the film's story out of order, using the John Waters "Pink Flamingos" school of staging, and making the ten bucks he had to shoot this picture look like five.

I think producer Jennifer Lopez's weekly shampoo budget is more than what this grimy picture cost. And it shows with every confined location, absence of proper lighting, and absurd performance.

The Movie

Geared towards the latent 13-year-old in every male, Crank doesn't unfold so much as it explodes off the screen, careening from one scene to the next, bursting forth in barely 90 minutes. Sturdy action everyman Jason Statham is the anchor which keeps Crank from sailing off into B-movie crapdom; call Crank brainless, sexist and more than a little callow, but you can't say it's not a hell of a lot of mindless fun -- bouncing in and out of multiplexes in summer 2006, this restless slam-bang actioner arrives on DVD to annihilate the winter doldrums.

Directed and written by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (both of whom make their directorial/screenwriting debuts here), Crank is an exercise in overblown simplicity -- the goofily named assassin Chev Chelios (Statham) awakens in his apartment, having just been poisoned by his rival Verona (Jose Pablo Cantillo) with a malicious dose of some mysterious drug known as "the Beijing cocktail." With blurred vision, leaden movement and a weak feeling, Chev learns he's got little time left before "the Beijing cocktail" renders him dead, his heart stopped by the lethal mixture. His black market doctor, Miles (a wonderfully loose Dwight Yoakam), prescribes no end of drugs, deeds and deadlines for Chev -- from shocking himself with a crash cart to injecting heavy doses of epinephrine, the dying assassin flits from one source of adrenaline to another, keeping his heart rate up in an effort to prolong his life.

You can see where Crank involves a hefty suspension of disbelief (the apex - or nadir, depending on your point of view - has to be when Chev indulges in a little public indecency with his brainless girlfriend Eve, a role which Amy Smart might regret having taken in a few years' time), but once you've accepted that Neveldine and Taylor aren't interested in a weighty exploration of life and death, but rather cramming as much action into an impossibly tight frame as humanly possible, you're in for one blisteringly fun ride. Devoid of any truly jaw-dropping sequences, save possibly for the maniacally over-the-top finale, Crank is all about forward momentum, keeping things popping and ratcheting up the delirium almost to the breaking point. It's the kind of flick that finds our hero on the receiving end of a blow-job while firing endless rounds of ammo out the back of a destroyed car during a high-speed chase; if that sentence doesn't rouse the latent teenager in you, then you should probably pass this movie by.

It's no accident that Crank's title screen looks like a vintage video game -- logic and common sense are out the window before the movie hits the 10-minute mark; if you hop on board, you're guaranteed one of the more deranged mainstream action-thrillers to come down the pike in some time. Brainless, bloody and borderline idiotic, Crank will still leave you dazed and amused.
