WALK HARD THE DEWEY COX STORY NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE WALK HARD DEWEY COX STORY FROM IMDB

The up-and-down-and-up-again story of musician Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly), whose songs would change a nation. On his rock ‘n roll spiral, Cox sleeps with 411 women, marries three times, has 22 kids and 14 stepkids, stars in his own 70s TV show, collects friends ranging from Elvis to the Beatles to a chimp, and gets addicted to – and then kicks – every drug known to man… but despite it all, Cox grows into a national icon and eventually earns the love of a good woman – longtime backup singer Darlene (Jenna Fischer). HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE WALK HARD THE DEWEY COX STORY FROM DVDTLAK

It takes a smart team to make a good spoof. This is evident in the many not-good spoofs that have polluted cineplexes in recent months, simple-minded exercises like "The Comebacks" and "Date Movie" that think referencing something is the same thing as spoofing it. "Walk Hard" gets it. Written by Jake Kasdan and Judd Apatow and directed by Kasdan, it's a parody of musical biopics, particularly "Walk the Line" and "Ray," and it merrily deconstructs the conventions of the genre with subtlety and (where required) blatant outright mockery. When the legendary rock singer Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly) stands contemplatively in the shadows backstage before a performance and a crew member urges him to get ready, a band member explains: "Dewey Cox needs to think about his entire life before he plays." The rest of the film is a flashback, of course, starting with Dewey's childhood in Arkansas in the 1940s. His brother Nate is a talented pianist and the favored son; as you know from seeing other biopics, Dewey is bound to be responsible, at least indirectly, for Nate's death. In this case, it's horseplay in the barn that leads to Dewey accidentally cutting Nate in half with a machete. At age 14, Dewey -- already being played by the very obviously 40-something John C. Reilly -- performs rock 'n' roll at a school talent show, resulting in mayhem. A few years later he's married to, and has an impossible number of children with, Edith (Kristen Wiig), who doesn't support his dreams of being a musician. "I do believe in you!" she insists. "I just know you're gonna fail." He sweeps floors at a black nightclub where everyone dances erotically, and gets his big break when the regular singer/guitarist is injured. His trajectory mostly follows Johnny Cash's, notably in his falling in love with a backup singer named Darlene (Jenna Fischer) and eventually leaving his wife for her. He becomes a drug user, too, after being introduced to it by his drummer, Sam (Tim Meadows), who warns him against using marijuana ... not very convincingly, since he also mentions that it has no side effects, isn't addictive, and is the cheapest drug there is.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE NATIONAL TREASURE 2 FROM DVDTALK

The short review of the new "National Treasure" sequel is that it's the exact same film as its predecessor. The extended review would be that it's the exact same film as its predecessor, but somehow even more unpleasant.

Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) is ready for a fight when a mysterious treasure hunter named Mitch (played with dead-eyed, boat-payment-glee by Ed Harris) sullies the Gates name by suggesting Ben's ancestor was involved in the murder of President Lincoln. Joined by his father Patrick (Jon Voight), estranged girlfriend Abigail (Diane Kruger), and sidekick Riley (Justin Bartha), the team scoots around the world on the hunt for clues that will lead them to a lost city made of gold. Closely hunted by Mitch's men and various law enforcement officials (led by Harvey Keitel), Ben and the gang try to elude danger at every step on their quest to save the family from historical disgrace.

2004's "National Treasure" was a meticulously tedious adventure film that, while appealing in its monotone family entertainment value, failed to catch fire as it gasped its way through leaden stunt set-pieces and hokey historical recreations. I blame director Jon Turteltaub, who failed to show much aptitude for the art of the action sequence, not to mention his complete unease with subtlety.

"Book of Secrets," isn't truly a sequel to the first "Treasure" film, but something of an unofficial remake, trucking through almost the exact same story beats and awkwardly similar locations, even presenting an overwrought climax that's set inside a very familiar cavernous, ancient chamber. The script doesn't further the characters either; it merely corrals them snugly together for another big show of puzzling, jetting around the globe to mingle with famous landmarks. In fact, I defy anyone to sniff out an actual character arc in this picture.

An animated fairy tale meets modern, live-action comedy. The beautiful princess Giselle is banished by an evil queen from her magical, musical animated land and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn't operate on a "happily ever after" basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer who has come to her aid - even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince back home - she has to wonder: Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world? Written by Orange

In an animated fairy tale world, a young girl meets and falls in love with the handsome prince of her dreams. News of this romance upsets the prince's mother, the evil queen, who uses her black magic to send the girl hurtling out of the animated world into the one place in the universe where there is no true love: modern day Manhattan. The now-real girl has to survive in New York City and find her way home again to her true love. Written by Giorgio_C

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE ENCHANTED FROM DVDTALK

While it walks cautiously in the shadow of self-referential monstrosities like "Shrek," Disney's latest princess feature "Enchanted" is an amusing romp that plays more happily to the all-important four quadrant ideals than anything else the studio has released this year. However, it's a charmer with severe reservations.

In the fairy tale land of Andalasia, Giselle (Amy Adams) is preparing for her wedding to Prince Edward (James Marsden), much to the chagrin of her soon-to-be stepmother, Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon). In an effort to remove the future princess from the picture, Narissa pushes Giselle down a fountain where she magically ends up in New York City. Offering help to the bewildered Giselle is lawyer Rob (Patrick Dempsey), who can't believe this unstoppably perky songstress is for real. When attempts by Narissa's henchmen (Timothy Spall) to kill Giselle fail, the Queen heads down the fountain herself to finish the job, while Edward traipses around the city with a rodent pal vowing to save his fiancée.

"Enchanted" marks a return of sorts to the 2D animation fold for the Disney company, choosing the opulent art form to illustrate the storybook life in Andalasia and cozy the material up to the legacy of princess movies. In fact, "Enchanted" is nothing but a valentine to the princess lifestyle; a full court press by the studio to find themselves a new glittering heroine in Giselle, using such devices as Julie Andrews's narration and cameos by the voices of past Disney royalty to make it a welcoming family affair.

Director Kevin Lima does a competent job pinpointing the fairy tale aesthetic for "Enchanted," jamming the film with talking animals, lavish costumes, and bouncy musical numbers. There are also a hundred references to other celebrated fantasies, most presented in an obvious fashion (single slippers, poisoned apples) so the audience can make a game of spotting the tributes. It's a relentlessly bubbly picture with at least two great songs (one, "That's How You Know," is an exhilaratingly choreographed showstopper) and a vibrant production design to please the eye.

THE GOLDEN COMPASS NOW AVAILABLE

THE GOLDEN COMPASS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE THE GOLDEN COMPASS FROM IMDB

It was no ordinary life for a young girl: living among scholars in the hallowed halls of Jordan College and tearing unsupervised through Oxford's motley streets on mad quests for adventure. But Lyra's greatest adventure would begin closer to home, the day she heard hushed talk of an extraordinary particle. Microscopic in size, the magical dust- found only in the vast Artic expanse of the North -was rumored to possess profound properties that could unite whole universes. But there were those who feared the particle and would stop at nothing to destroy it. Catapulted into the heart of a terrible struggle, Lyra was forced to seek aid from clans, gyptians, and formidable armored bears. And as she journeyed into unbelievable danger, she had not the faintest clue that she alone was destined to win, or to lose, this more-than-mortal battle... Written by Krista

Adaptation of the Carnegie Medal-winning novel by Pullman, the first volume in the His Dark Materials trilogy. In a parallel Oxford, young Lyra Belacqua begins a dimension-crossing odyssey that builds from a merely atypical children's adventure into a complex (and frequently quite dark) philosophical epic. Written by Tom Aylward-Nally

Lyra Belaqua, living in Oxford's Jordan College, is not but a young girl living among scholars. Her world may seem diverse, from physical embodiments of souls that take the shape of an animal, but similar with people around you to become friends and enemies. She is thrown into a perilous adventure when she overhears a conversation of an extraordinary microscopic particle, Dust. This particle is said to unite different worlds, and is feared by many who want to destroy it forever. As Lyra is flung into the middle of this horrible struggle, she meets wondrous creatures both big and small, and villains who are not what they seem. Gobblers, that kidnap children, will turn out in the most unexpected places. And a magical compass of gold that will answer any question if one is skilled enough to read it. Lyra's adventure continues throughout these three books, and the first is about to be told. Written by Reaz

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE THE GOLDEN COMPASS FROM DVDTALK

"Golden Compass" is one of those outrageously expansive fantasy tales with enough characters to fill three movies and a perplexing vocabulary that stacks up in a hurry, leaving the bewildered viewer gasping for air. That's not to say this is a bad film, but it's a tough nut to crack. As fantasy epic book-to-screen adaptations go, this has the most intimidating thickness to date.

Lyra Belacqua (Dakota Blue Richards) is a precocious 11 year-old roaming the collegiate home of her uncle, Lord Asriel (Daniel Craig), with her animal other half (known as Daemons), Pantalaimon, at her side. Gifted a truth-revealing compass device called an Alethiometer, Lyra finds herself in severe jeopardy when the wicked Mrs. Coulter (Nicole Kidman) shows up to claim the girl and the compass for the benefit of the vile Gobblers. Meeting up with loyal Gyptians, cowboys (Sam Elliot), witches (Eva Green), and earning the life debt of a bruiser Ice Bear (a polar bear crossed with a punch in the face) named Lorek Byrnison (robustly voiced by Ian McKellen), Lyra heads to the arctic to save a group of children undergoing experiments performed by the Gobblers and find the secret of a mysterious luminescent substance called Dust.

Phew. If any of the above synopsis made sense, congratulations! You're already halfway to understanding the riches "Compass" offers. Adapted from the Philip Pullman trilogy of novels, "Compass" is setting out to be the next "Lord of the Rings" franchise dynamo, complete with sophisticated special effects, a sparkling cast, and labyrinthine source material that is begging to roll out over three movies. So much so, "Compass" actually fails to contain an ending.

I'm new to Pullman's vast imagination, which leaves me at quite a loss over how to interpret writer/director Chris Weitz's compacted adaptation. Weitz is not the first director that comes to mind when dreaming up the possibilities of a fantasy free-for-all; clearly the people financing the film could make the artistic credibility leap from "American Pie" to "Compass" that I couldn't. Actually, Weitz does an admirable job stapling down a coherent narrative, keeping his camerawork clean and always goading a sense of awe into the forefront. He seems fearful of pushing his luck with the script, so the ambition of the picture is limited to character introductions, not stylish widescreen wizardry.

If the sheer amount of story doesn't feel heavy enough, "Compass" spends almost every scene explaining itself, as if stuck in permo-exposition mode. It's exhausting trying to keep up with everything onscreen (the Dust subplot is left painfully unexplained), but the basics are covered, even if they discharge from characters who spend more time spitting out plot points with puckered pusses than engaging in bewitching verbal warfare.

When some mystery thrillers reveal their secrets at the end, you say, "Aaaahh," in a mix of surprise and satisfaction. When "I Know Who Killed Me" unveils everything, you say, "What? Are you serious? That's stupid." I have to assume that this was not the filmmakers' intention. Lurid, over-sexualized, and boring when it's not being actively unpleasant, "I Know Who Killed Me" stars Lindsay Lohan as Aubrey Fleming, a talented high school senior with a football player boyfriend (Brian Geraghty) and a scholarship to Yale. She writes fiction and plays the piano, both allegedly with great skill, though the examples we're shown aren't very impressive.

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE BEOWULF FROM IMDB

The warrior Beowulf must fight and defeat the monster Grendel who is terrorizing towns, and later, Grendel's mother, who begins killing out of revenge.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE BEOWULF FROM DVDTALK

The process that's utilized by "Beowulf" to render its grandiose scenes of confrontation is called Motion Capture. A stylized hybrid of animation and human acting (think a 'roided up rotoscoping), mo-cap is still in its infancy, but don't tell "Beowulf" that. A lush, pulsating adventure tale, this is the future of cinema; the limitations of storytelling inching one step further to being forever erased.

When drunken King Hrothgar (Anthony Hopkins) and his Queen (Robin Wright Penn) find their land besieged by the vile and wicked monster Grendel (Crispin Glover), they call on hero Beowulf (Ray Winstone) to slay the beast. With an ego to match his skill, Beowulf battles Grendel, only to find his hazardously tempting Mother (Angelina Jolie) a more conniving foe. After victory becomes his mythical imprisonment, Beowulf's talents are needed again when a dragon ravages the kingdom.

"Beowulf" is the most famous of poems. An epic adventure dating back to the year 700, the tale of heroism has been debated, explored, and CliffsNoted a thousand times over, but I'm positive it's never been envisioned quite like this movie. Visual magician (or director) Robert Zemeckis has snatched the poem and pried it open by way of intricate mo-cap execution, the same process that brought "Polar Express" to life in 2004, conceiving luxuriant primitive worlds for Beowulf to conquer and snarling enemies to fight. It's classic adventure storytelling, thrilling when the film eventually settles into its battle cry, and pinched raw by modern twists that hurl "Beowulf" away from a sleepy high school assignment and toward something genuinely unpredictable.

Certainly the screenplay by Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman does take time to get rolling, as it has difficulty shifting gears between Beowulf's brawling sense of war and his royal exhaustion. However, words are of little importance in this picture, since Zemeckis is serving up an overflowing basket of big screen treats, even offering the film in 3-D and IMAX formats (the preferred theatrical exhibition, lemme tell ya) to best grab the viewer by the throat.

Being a perfectionist and a firm believer in constructing shots instead of shooting for the edit, Zemeckis uses the freedom and fluidity of mo-cap to imagine Beowulf's towering feats of strength. Watching the title character slice sea creatures in half, leap on a flying dragon, or fight Grendel in the nude (the film's best sequence), it becomes clear that "Beowulf" is fearless with its staging. In the animation realm, Beowulf's stories of past glory can be executed to soaring heights, while his current troubles with creatures of all shapes and sizes drip with newfound flexibility, meticulously orchestrated in the director's imaginative, affectionately sustained shot list.

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE GHOSTBUSTERS 1 FROM IMDB

Three misfit parapsychology professors are booted out of their cushy jobs at New York City's Columbia University. Despite their relative lack of funding, they start an enterprise called Ghostbusters, a spectral investigation and removal service. One of the men has a plan to catch and contain supernatural entities, though it has never been properly tested. Undeterred, they obtain a former fire station as a base and begin advertising on local television. At first, their clients are few and far between, and the Ghostbusters have to depend on their individual talents to keep the business alive: Dr. Egon Spengler is a scientific genius, Dr. Raymond "Ray" Stantz is an expert on paranormal history and metallurgy, and Dr. Peter Venkman has charm and business savvy, although he is in some ways a charlatan. Although he initially comes off as a bit of a goof and sleaze, Venkman eventually finds a subtly heroic side to himself when he learns that a creature called Zuul is haunting the apartment of Dana Barrett, a client who has become the object of his lustful intentions. Unfortunately, it soon becomes apparent to the Ghostbusters that the spike in paranormal events means they are headed toward a climactic confrontation with an entity ancient Sumerian God known as Gozer the Gozerian, whose presence was implied by bizarre occurrences such as the demonic Zuul appearing in Dana Barrett's apartment! The Ghostbusters are called on to save the Big Apple and face Gozer themselves. Written by Anthony Pereyra {hypersonic91@yahoo.com}

Three odd-ball scientists get kicked out of their cushy positions at a university in New York City where they studied the occult. They decide to set up shop in an old firehouse and become Ghostbusters, trapping pesky ghosts, spirits, haunts, and poltergeists for money. They wise-crack their way through the city, and stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, one which will release untold evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters are called on to save the Big Apple. Written by Greg Bole {bole@life.bio.sunysb.edu}

Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler are three scientists at Columbia University in New York City. When their grant expires, the guys are fired and they go into business as a ghost extermination company called "Ghostbusters". Their first customer is orchestra cello player Dana Barrett, who was scared out of her apartment on the 22nd floor of a high rise apartment building on Central Park West. It seems that Dana's neighbor, Louis Tully, is also being affected by the strange happenings in the apartment building. Armed with proton guns, the Ghostbusters become wildly popular, and they are joined by Winston Zeddmore, who is looking for a job with good pay. Overzealous Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) agent Walter Peck thinks the Ghostbusters are frauds, and he has the Ghostbusters put in jail. Peck is forced to believe the Ghostbusters when New York City is put under siege by an ancient Sumerian God named Gozer the Gozerian, who is channeled through the apartment building that Dana and Louis live in, and the mayor has no choice but to let the Ghostbusters out of jail to face Gozer. Written by Todd Baldridge

After being kicked out of their university, parapsychology professors Spengler, Stantz and Venkman decide to go into business for themselves by trapping and removing ghosts from haunted houses. After some initial skepticism, business is soon booming as The Ghost Busters rid New York of its undead. When a downtown skyscraper becomes the focal point of spirit activity linked to the ancient god Gozer, however, the problem may be more than the team can handle. Written by Jean-Marc Rocher {rocher@fiberbit.net}

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE GHOSTBUSTERS 1 FROM DVDTALK

A classic film that still entertains, "Ghostbusters" tells the story of 4 scientists who, after finding themselves out on the street, decide to open their own business catching ghosts. The script(by Dan Ackroyd/Harold Ramis) is still just as funny and witty today and the sort of dry comic timing between the characters I still found quite funny. The film deals with the band searching for the reason why so many ghosts are finding their way into the city, but also adds in a few subplots, such as an Environmental Protection Agency agent going after the Ghostbusters because he believes they're violating state environmental laws as well as an additional romantic subplot between Bill Murray's ghostbuster and Sigorney Weaver's character. Technically, the film also still stands up. The effects were incredible then and now, they can still be appreciated as great for their time. There's also something more entertaining about the not-quite-flawless nature of a lot of the film's physically done special effects that I find more entertaining than most of the seamless effects of a lot of today's films. But overall, it's a movie that's still wonderfully funny, smart and sure to entertain on this new disc- Columbia/Tristar has done a fantastic job bringing this film to disc in a great Special Edition package.

THE MOVIE 300 BETTER QUALITY NOW AVAILABLE

JUST IN 300 THE MOVIE NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

HERE IS THE SUMMARY OF 300 FROM IMDB

It is spring, 480 BC Persian King Xerxes, continuing his fathers, Darius, master plan to conquer the Hellenic city-states, arrives in Hellas. The previous Persian invasion and diplomatic attempts have already turned most northern Hellas tribes and states to the Persian side. But the people of Athens and Sparta, the largest Hellenic powers at the time, feel quite insulted by the Persian emissaries requesting their surrender to Xerxes and slay them. In Sparta, King Leonidas consults the local oracle, which gives two options: either a spartan king will have to be sacrificed or Sparta will be burned to the ground. A year earlier (481, BC) a panhellenic consortium of all southern city-states have already recognized the superiority of the spartan army (the best organized and trained army at the time) and have announced King Leonidas supreme commander of the combined Hellenic army. It is then decided that a small force should block Xerxes' way to southern Hellas in the Thermopylae passage.This passage was at that time 12 meters wide.The great historian Herodotus, possibly exaggerating, states that there were 1700000 Persians(their true number could be anywhere around 100000 and 1000000) against 7000 Hellenic hoplites and slaves, including the 300 men of the spartan king elite guard. King Xerxes waited for 4 days for the Hellenes to be frightened and eventually surrender and was quite astonished by his opponents complete apathy who were following their daily program practicing and making their hair! After that Xerxes tried to convince Leonidas to drop weapons, give up his position, kneel before him and live on as a local governor under Xerxes. King Leonidas replied "molon lave", which means "Come and get them". Then the 3 days battle begun with the 300 Spartans, and 700 thespians (the other Hellenes where sent by Leonidas to protect passages to their flanks) slaying thousands of Persians with minimal losses. The whole Persian campaign would have fail if there wasn't Efialtes who showed Xerxes a secret passage to the Hellenic flanks. After a final battle lead by king Xerxes himself the Hellenic force was completely slain and their heroism and glory was written forever in history. From the beginning of the battle the Hellenes buried their dead in the spot they fell dead. After the battle signs where made for the dead of each Hellenic faction. For the pelloponisians generally (including the 300 Spartans) the sign reads(free translation) 'In this place 4000 thousand pelloponisians fought 30 millions), for the 300 Spartans(lakaedaemonians) especially the sign reads(free translation) 'Oh foreigner tell the lakaedaemonians that we are buried here obeying their laws' meaning that they never hesitated and never retreated from the enemy. The impact of the battle was enormous for both sides. The Persians' morale dropped to zero and the Hellenes lost their fear for the Persian conqueror and organized their defense. After several successful battles the Hellenes ultimately defeated the Persian army and repelled their invasion in the Battle of plataea in 479 BC. Written by Harris o Harros

When the ambitious King Xerxes of Persia invades Greece with his huge army to extend his vast slave empire, the brave Ling Leonidas brings his personal body guard army composed of three hundred warriors to defend the passage of Thermopylae, the only way by land to reach Greece. Using courage and the great battle skill of his men, he defends Thermopylae until a treacherous Greek citizen tells King Xerxes a secret goat passage leading to the back of Leonidas's army. Meanwhile, his wife Queen Gorgo of Sparta tries to convince the council to send the Spartan army to fight against the Persians. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, "300" concerns the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians; the battle is said to have inspired all of Greece to band together against the Persians, and helped usher in the world's first democracy. Written by Simon Stevens

In the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian army in the mountain pass of Thermopylae. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the enemy in one of the most famous last stands of history. Persian King Xerxes lead a Army of well over 100,000 (Persian king Xerxes before war has about 170,000 army) men to Greece and was confronted by 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians and other Slave soldiers. Xerxes waited for 10 days for King Leonidas to surrender or withdraw left with no options he moved. The battle lasted for about 3 days and after which all 300 Spartans were killed. The Spartan defeat was not the one expected as a local shepherd named Ephialtes defected to the Persians and informed Xerxes of a separate path through Thermopylae, which the Persians could use to outflank the Greeks. Written by cyberian2005

In 480 BC, the Persian king Xerxes sends his massive army to conquer Greece. The Greek city of Sparta houses its finest warriors, and 300 of these soldiers are chosen to meet the Persians at Thermopylae, engaging the soldiers in a narrow canyon where they cannot take full advantage of their numbers. The battle is a suicide mission, meant to buy time for the rest of the Greek forces to prepare for the invasion. However, that doesn't stop the Spartans from throwing their hearts into the fray, determined to take as many Persians as possible with them. Written by rmlohner

HERE IS A REVIEW OF THE MOVIE 300 FROM DVD TALK

If a society like Sparta existed today, it would be denounced as cruel, inhumane, and would probably be a target for liberation by one group or another. Killing babies for having physical defects is generally considered a no-no in today's society. And yet, despite Sparta's almost complete lack of artistic culture, political science, or value of anything outside of the art of war, the city-state flourished for centuries. While their practices may seem outlandish and harsh, they did produce some of the finest warriors of the ancient world, men bound together by a code of honor and a love of their country.

It is these fraternal feelings that Zack Snyder celebrates in his visually stunning adaptation of Frank Miller's epic graphic novel. 300 tells a highly stylized tale of the Battle of Thermopylae, that famous event where three hundred Spartans (and about 700 warriors from other Greek city-states) held back the advancing armies of Xerxes I. The historical events themselves were used as a springboard for Frank Miller's fertile imagination in his 1998 comic miniseries (later collected in graphic novel form) with Lynn Varley.

After the success of Robert Rodriguez's film version of Miller's iconic Sin City, director Snyder took a similar stylistic approach. All of 300 was shot against blue-screen and green-screen backgrounds, allowing the filmmakers to add in all the details later. The result is a comic book come to life: heightened colors and contrasts give the film a feel of a moving painting. You could take any frame from a print and throw it into an art gallery without anyone batting an eye. And the Persian designs are so outlandish that they go beyond embellishment. They represent the mystic nature of the East in the most literal way. Compared to the lightly-attired Spartans, they appear as the height of excess.

And it certainly would be easy to lambaste the film as being as excessive as the villains it depicts. But Snyder dresses up the Persians specifically to highlight just what kind of men the Spartans are. For them, the battle is all. There is a lot of talk about "free men" throughout the movie, as to lose to Xerxes would mean the enslavement of all Sparta. But in point of fact, the term "free man" only meant that the Spartans were not slaves to other men; they were all slaves to the state. The strict nature of Spartan society, while hinted at, is never shown. So why would men fight and die so willingly for a country that strictly governed their entire lives from birth to death?

The answers are honor, fraternity, and the right to call themselves their own masters. In many ways, the Spartans had the first modern army. By forging brotherhood through hardship from the earliest age of a child, the Spartan army was loyal, severe, and brutally talented. Don't modern boot camps work the same way? Break down the mind, then rebuild it into a killing machine. 300 displays these methods in their noblest light. These men are not afraid to stand up against an army hundreds of times bigger than their meager force due to their camaraderie, their knowledge of their battle talents, and through their acceptance of death. Snyder comes back to this theme time and again. The whole film hinges upon it.

In many ways, I've avoided discussing the film itself. The fact is, the story here is very simple. Persia threatens Sparta, Sparta sends small force to defend itself. Persians attack, Spartans do not yield. Repeat. In between, we get a few scenes of politicking and backstabbing back at home. These scenes, while giving the story a wider context, also feel superfluous. The heart and soul of the story lies with the men who fought with everything they had in the face of an insurmountable foe. It's a simple story, told well, and while it may not be historically accurate, it makes you feel what it could have been like to be a Spartan.

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE HIGH FIDELITY FROM IMDB

Based on the cult novel of the same name by Nick Hornby, High Fidelity follows the 'mid-life' crisis of Rob (Cusack), a thirty-something record-store owner who must face the undeniable facts - he's growing up. In a hilarious homage to the music scene, Rob and the wacky, offbeat clerks that inhabit his store expound on the intricacies of life and song all the while trying to succeed in their adult relationships. Are they listening to pop music because they are miserable? Or are they miserable because they listen to pop music? This romantic comedy provides a touching and whimsical glimpse into the male view of the affairs of the heart. Written by {N2XFYLS@aol.com}

Rob gets ditched (yet again) by his current femalething. This catalysts a sordid self examinatory process about all his failed relationships. It's centred around his record shop, and coloured by his two motley socially inadequate assistants. Written by Filmtwob {webmaster@filmfreak.co.za}

Arrested development confronts 30-something Rob Gordon when Laura, his smart and successful lover, leaves him because he hasn't changed since they met. He reviews his top five worst breakups (he constantly makes top five lists, though usually about music). He recalls each breakup, reconnects with these former loves to find out why they dumped him, and wallows in misery from losing Laura. Much of it plays out at his vinyl record store where he and two clerks, socially-inept savants, live and breathe obscure contemporary music. Rob makes fruitless attempts to win Laura back, indulges in new relationships laced with fantasy, and tries introspection. What will Laura do? Written by {jhailey@hotmail.com}

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE HIGH FIDELITY FROM DVDTALK

The Movie:
"High Fidelity" is a film that deserved a wider audience. Released in the final week of March to good reviews, the film didn't get much of a push, and faded fairly quickly. The film pulls off a double play that's not always easy and even less frequently seen in movies lately - the film not only has dialogue that's smart and funny, but great characters that are fully written and completely likable. John Cusack's performance is easily one of his best, as well. Cusack plays Rob, a record store owner and music fanatic whose girlfriend Laura("Mifune"'s Iben Hjelje) has just left him. This sends him into memories about the top 5 break-ups that he's had throughout his life (with girlfriends played by such actresses as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lili Taylor). In fact, the majority of his life is based around the "top 5" lists that he consistently shares with his two fellow employees Barry(the scene-stealing Jack Black) and Dick(Todd Louiso). There really isn't a structured plot; the film mainly is Cusack's Rob serving as tour guide through the troubles that have served as obstacles in his finding the "one", which Laura might have been. The scenes in the store are definitely the highlights though - with Barry going after the customers who don't share his taste in music (with a very funny scene in the trailer). It's an extremely funny performance by Jack Black that's easily one of his best. And although Cusack talks to the camera a bit too much, the relationships and dialogue feel very natural and very realistic. At the center of it all, is Rob, wondering why things never seem to last with the women in his life, and wondering just what it is he's done wrong, with music as the soundtrack for his life. The film also uses Chicago locations perfectly. Rather than just sort of skimming over places and making them feel generic, "Fidelity" takes real locations and makes them feel...well, real. The only real wrong step the movie takes is Tim Robbins, whose character is a little too goofy.

When a criminal plot is in place to take down the entire computer and technological structure that supports the economy of the United States (and the world), it's up to a decidedly "old school" hero, police detective John McClane, to take down the conspiracy, aided by a young hacker.

HERE IS A REVIEW OF THE MOVIE DIE HARD 4 FROM DVDTALK

Oh, John McClane. How we have missed you! America has changed since 1995, when we last saw you. We have been attacked by terrorists. We have turned Internet geekery into a viable career option. And most of all, we have become overly concerned about cutting down on the swear words so that we can earn a PG-13 rating and thus open ourselves up to the more lucrative teen moviegoer market. We need you in times like these, John McClane! McClane is back in "Live Free or Die Hard," a walloping action flick with a silly title, lots of smarmy tough-guy jokes, and a series of outrageously improbable stunt sequences -- exactly what you want in a "Die Hard" movie, in other words. (People who complain about this entry's ridiculous title should remember that the last one was called "Die Hard: With a Vengeance.")

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE HITMAN FROM IMDB

A gun-for-hire known only as Agent 47 (Olyphant) is ensnared in a political conspiracy, which finds him pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military as he treks across Eastern Europe. hired by a group known as "The Agency" to kill targets for cash.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE HITMAN FROM DVDTALK

Movies adapted from video games have always been a strange phenomenon. Taking something inherently cinematic and turning it into something...er, cinematic has resulted in a line of box office corpses. "Hitman" is the latest casualty; an overcooked time killer that finds bad acting, bad direction, bad cinematography, and bad screenwriting in a furious race to dominate the running time. I'd call it a four-way tie.

Living a life of murder clad in posh business wear, Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) is a contract killer with an enigmatic past, genetically bred to assassinate anyone as long as the price is right. Positioned as the patsy in a scheme to execute a Russian leader, 47 dashes around Europe to clear his name, taking a prostitute (model Olga Kurylenko) with him for answers, only to find himself consumed with protecting her. As the two plunge deeper into the conspiracy, an Interpol agent (Dougray Scott) is hot on their tail, rabid to stop 47 and expose his identity.

The appeal of the "Hitman" video games was the ability to play up John Woo theatrics and enjoy a healthy portion of Luc Besson anti-hero glorification. So, in turning "Hitman" into a movie, the production has created a film frighteningly derivative of the fruit of past action pioneers. It hopes the lure of its console origin will sucker the faithful into coughing up hard-earned cash to watch what normally passes for direct-to-video content, only without Steven Seagal or Wesley Snipes in the lead role.

As a movie, "Hitman" is a jumble of poorly executed ideas all fighting for screentime. Director Xavier Gens doesn't have the faintest clue how to rein everything in and mold a story out of this mess, so he allows the picture to run wild with generic action and political mumbo-jumbo. It's an overblown highlight reel of directorial exhaustion, topping itself with bullet cinema cliché after cliché.

The finest example of buffoonery being a shootout in one of those dingy Euro hideouts (you know, the ones with hookers and "Clockwork Orange" references laying about) where 47 detonates a bomb on a table of money, soon engaging in a slo-mo gunfight while cash rains from the sky Jay-Z style and bodies are soon pocked with juicy bullet wounds. In short: Gens has nothing innovative to offer the big screen; he's just another style-conscious boob with a budget.

Miz and Morrison started double-teaming Punk in the ring until Miz shoved Morrison away. Morrison sent Miz to the floor until both started exchanging offense in the ring. Impressive spot saw Punk hit a huricanranna on Morrison from the top rope which sent Morrison into Miz who hit Morrison with a quick powerbomb. Another quick match here that saw Mickie James kiss Melina and then kick her in the head for the win.

- A promo for WrestleMania 24 airs.

- Backstage, a shot of a concerned Hornswoggle is shown as Jonathan Coachman and William Regal are smiling about his match with The Great Khali later tonight.

- Footage was shown from earlier in the day with Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels. Orton said he will be disappointing all the WWE fans tonight when he beats HBK and that his only chance to beat him would have been with the superkick - which he can't use tonight. Michaels told Orton that he tried to take his career away from him and now he will take away his WWE Title tonight.

- Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch defeated Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes to retain the World Tag Team Titles. Early on in the match, Holly sent Cade to the floor and Rhodes sent Murdoch to the floor as well. Cade and Murdoch began to isolate Holly from getting a tag to Rhodes. Rhodes got the high tag later on and took out Murdoch with a big high back body drop. Rhodes continued the offense on Murdoch with a bulldog and a big dropkick from the top rope. The finish saw Holly hit the ring and send himself over the top rope to the outside along with Cade. In the ring, Murdoch hit Rhodes with a modified Canadian Destroyer and got the pinfall. After the match, Holly got in Cody's face and left to the back without him.

- At ringside, Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole and JBL talk about how Matt Hardy is out of the 10-Man Elimination Match. JBL added that Mysterio is working injured as well.

- Backstage, Todd Grisham was with Triple H's team. Jeff Hardy said MVP taking out his brother Matt only lit a fire underneath them tonight. They did a brief confrontation between Kane and Triple H where Kane was still upset about the Kate Vick deal. Triple H apologized. Jeff Hardy then brought up how Triple H once put him in the hospital. Triple H again apologized. He said tonight they will take out any aggression they have on their opponents.

- Triple H, WWE Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio & Kane defeated Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, WWE U.S. Champion MVP, Finlay & Big Daddy V in a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match. Eliminations were as follows: Kane was eliminated first by Big Daddy V after a samoan drop and elbow drop. Rey Mysterio was eliminated second by Umaga after a samoan spike. MVP was eliminated third by Jeff Hardy after a Twist of Fate. Mr. Kennedy was eliminated fourth by Triple H after Big Daddy V went for an elbow drop on Triple H but missed and hit Kennedy instead. Big Daddy V was eliminated fifth by Triple H after he was hit with a double DDT by Triple H and Hardy. We are down to Triple H & Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga & Finlay. Finlay was eliminated sixth by Triple H following a Pedigree. Umaga was eliminated last after a Pedigree by Triple H and a Swanton Bomb by Jeff Hardy, with Jeff getting the pinfall on Umaga. I bet that surprised some people. Very solid match.

- Michael Cole and JBL looked at some footage of the new Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 video game with a Hell in a Cell Match between Batista and The Undertaker.

- Backstage, we see a shot of Hornswoggle still concerned about his match with The Great Khali. Vince McMahon shows up and Hornswoggle hugs him. Vince told Hornswoggle that he made the match tonight because Hornswoggle's last name is McMahon and that he has been an underdog before against Time-Warner and the United States government - beating both. He tells Hornswoggle that all McMahon's have huge grapefruits and are impervious to pain. Hornswoggle is pumped up to fight.

- The Great Khali defeated Hornswoggle via DQ. Wasn't much of a match at all. Shane McMahon came out first and introduced his father and then his half-brother Hornswoggle. A loud "WE WANT SHAQ" chant started up. Shaq is in the house tonight by the way. During the match, Hornswoggle kicked Khali's translator to the floor and spit green mist in his face. Hornswoggle then hid under the ring. The finish saw Finlay run down and hit Khali with the shillelagh followed by a low blow. Both Vince and Shane McMahon leave the ringside area to the back.

- A video package airs highlighting the feud between Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels going into tonight's match for the WWE Title.

- Randy Orton defeated Shawn Michaels to retain the WWE Championship. The stipulation here was that Orton couldn't intentionally DQ himself, while Michaels couldn't use the Sweet Chin Music. Lots of ground wrestling early on in the match. HBK would fake out Orton numerous times during the match teasing he was going for a superkick. First big spot saw HBK hit a big springboard moonsault from the ropes to Orton on the floor. Believe it or not, HBK applied a Sharpshooter on Orton in the ring. Orton responded with a spike DDT from the ropes after breaking the submission. Orton hit a quick standing dropkick on HBK as well when HBK was getting in some quick offense. HBK also applied the Crossface on Orton later on, which might have been questionable to do. Orton attempted to kick HBK in the head later in the match, but HBK countered by applying an Ankle Lock. The finish saw HBK counter an RKO attempt and had his opening to hit the Sweet Chin Music, but stopped shorted and this allowed Orton to hit the RKO to get the clean pinfall on HBK for the win to retain his title. After the match, Orton dragged a knocked out HBK to the corner, slapped him and demanded he acknowledge him as the future. When Orton turned his back on HBK for a few seconds, HBK stood up and then hit Orton with the Sweet Chin Music.

- A promo for Armageddon on December 16 airs.

- Another "Save_us" video aired, noting we are just 23 hours and 32 minutes away until tomorrow night.

- Backstage, a shot of Batista was shown. Back in the arena, the Hell in a Cell is lowered over the ring.

- A video package airs highlighting the feud between Batista and The Undertaker going into tonight's Hell in a Cell match for the World Heavyweight Title.

Hell in the Cell match for the World Heavyweight title match: Batista vs. The Undertaker. Batista entered the cell first, but the fans chanted "Taker, Taker." Batista speared The Undertaker.
