SHAUN OF THE DEAD NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE SHAUN OF THE DEAD FROM IMDB

Shaun doesn't have a very good day, so he decides to turn his life around by getting his ex to take him back, but he times it for right in the middle of what may be a zombie apocalypse... But for him, it's an opportunity to show everyone he knows how useful he is by saving them all. All he has to do is survive... And get his ex back. Written by Infest0125

Shaun isn't having the greatest of times: the staff at the appliance store he works in doesn't take him very seriously as temporary boss; his girlfriend Liz has had enough of always meeting at the Winchester Arms along with his best mate; and his relationship with his dad--sorry, stepdad--remains heavily fraught. And now the living dead have risen and are spreading their zombie curse to everyone into which they can get their teeth. Just doesn't seem worth getting out of bed some days. HERE IS A REVIEW OF THE MOVIE SHAUN OF THE DEAD FROM DVDTALK

The Movie: After the series of horror films I've seen in the last few years ("Dawn of the Dead", etc), it's refreshing to see a horror parody that not only works, but works on other levels. The film focuses on Shaun (Simon Pegg), an average British guy who spends his time either in the pub or working in an electronics store with teenage co-workers. However, his girlfriend, Liz (Kate Ashfield), is fed up with the nights hanging out in the pub with Shaun's flat-mate/best friend, Ed (Nick Frost) and wants something new. When Shaun forgets to make a dinner reservation that would celebrate their anniversary, Liz calls the whole relationship off. Meanwhile, there are reports on the TV in the background of strange goings-on, which go completely ignored by our main characters. Shaun, so desensitized to his existence, travels the same route he does every morning, completely oblivious to things like the ominous stain on the freezer at the grocery store, or the puddle below it that he nearly slips on. Even when confronted with a couple of zombies, Shaun and his friends are really none the wiser. But, as the situation proceeds to get worse, the two finally realize that there's some seriously weird events going on outside. The plan: Ed and Shaun will try and go to their car, drive to Shaun's mother's house, get her, drive to his now ex-girlfriend's house and get her (and end up taking her flat-mates along), then they'll all go to the pub and have a pint while they wait for things to calm down outside. As the group tries to make their way past the walking dead that are on patrol throughout the neighborhoods, Shaun has a wake-up call, and starts to become a (moderately) good leader on what will become known as "Z-Day" (Zombie Day).

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE FROM DVDTALK

One thing about this film is for sure, the title stinks. I'm sure it sounds elegant on the cover of the novel this picture is based on, but slap it on the screen, and you're begging people to laugh. Having now seen the film, perhaps a better title would've been, "Hot Topic: The Movie."

Vivian (Agnes Bruckner, "Venom") is young woman living with her relatives in Romania. During the day the innocent girl bides her time working in a chocolate shop, but at night, she reveals herself to be a crucial member of a pack of werewolves. The leader, Gabriel (Olivier Martinez, "Unfaithful"), is ready to marry again, and all signs point to Vivian to be the new bride. Plans changer, however, when an American artist, Aiden (Hugh Dancy, "King Arthur"), takes a shine to Vivian, capturing her heart, but enraging her protective and sinister family of werewolves, or "loup-garou."

First and foremost, "Blood" is harmless entertainment. Outside of the complete and utter bastardization of Annette Curtis Klause's original story, the film plays unexpectedly quietly and with occasional dreamlike elegance if you squint hard enough. Director Katja von Garnier brings an almost sensual quality to the screenplay, and her fascination with the movement of wolves stands out as an odd highlight of the picture.

FIRE HOUSE DOG NOW AVAILABLE

FIRE HOUSE DOG NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE FIREHOUSE DOG FROM IMDB

Rexxx, Hollywood's top canine star, gets lost and is adopted into a shabby firehouse. He teams up with a young kid (Hutcherson) to get the station back on its feet.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE FIREHOUSE DOG FROM DVDTALK

"Firehouse Dog" is a mess, but it's a good-natured mess. It's about a boy and his dog, and also about firefighters, and so I don't see how it's possible not to have warm feelings toward it. Kids? Dogs? Heroes? This movie was custom-made to make my mom cry. It's part feel-good family romp, part Hollywood satire, part kids-save-the-day mystery. Like I said, it's a mess. It has too many dog farts, and by "too many," I mean "more than zero." It also has the dog taking a dump in the stew -- BUT AT LEAST NO ONE SUBSEQUENTLY EATS THE STEW. That's a small victory, but nowadays, with family films as poop-centric as they are, you take all the victories you can get. So yeah, big jumbled mess of a film with way too many things going on, and it's far too long for a kid flick. And yet I'm sort of casually recommending it, because a) it's not boring, b) it's sometimes kind of funny, and c) it's heartwarming. Too many family films are idiotic and pointless and confuse chaos with comedy. "Firehouse Dog" is calm and assured. It doesn't dance around like a monkey and honk its big clown nose to try to convince you to like it. It just does its thing, smoothly and somewhat intelligently, and lets you decide.

MAN OF THE YEAR NOW AVAILABLE

MAN OF THE YEAR NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE MAN OF THE YEAR FROM IMDB

Tom Dobbs, comedic host of a political talk show - a la Bill Maher and Jon Stewart - runs for President of the US as an independent candidate who, after an issues-oriented campaign and an explosive performance in the final debate, gets just enough votes to win. Trouble is he owes his victory to a computer glitch in the national touch-screen voting system marketed by Delacroy, a private company with a rising stock price. To protect their fortune, Delacroy executives want to keep the glitch a secret, but one programmer, Eleanor Green, wants Dobbs to know the truth. Can she get to him? Written by {jhailey@hotmail.com}

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE MAN OF THE YEAR FROM DVDTALK

The Movie There's a simple fact of film criticism which can be very, very hard to follow: One can only review the film as it is presented. Many critics, myself included, are tempted to criticize movies for what they're aren't, or for what they could have been. (Gene Siskel was often guilty of this.) Keeping this in mind, how does one judge a film which was mis-represented by its advertising? The critic can't blame the filmmakers for this and can only look at the film in question. Thus is the case with Barry Levinson's Man of the Year. Robin Williams stars in Man of the Year as Tom Dobbs, a Jon Stewart-esque host of a talk show which mixes political and comic overtones. One night, an audience member asks Tom why he doesn't run for president. When Tom mentions this on his show, the e-mails pour in and he begins to take the idea seriously, much to the chagrin of his manager, Jack Menken (Christopher Walken), and his head writer, Eddie Langston (Lewis Black). Given the clear support that he's getting and the feedback from viewers who are tired of the political parties, Tom decides to throw his hat in the ring. Meanwhile, a computer firm called Delacroy has received a contract to supply computerized voting booths to every precinct in the country. Employee Eleanor Green (Laura Linney) finds a glitch in the system which makes the program unreliable. She takes this to company president Hemmings (Rick Roberts), who assures her that it will be taken care of.

LORDS OF DOGTOWN NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE LORDS OF DOGTOWN FROM IMDB.

A fictionalized take on the group of brilliant young skateboarders raised in the mean streets of Dogtown in Santa Monica, California. The Z-Boys, as they come to be known, perfect their craft in the empty swimming pools of unsuspecting suburban homeowners, pioneering a thrilling new sport and eventually moving into legend. HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE LORDS OF DOGTOWN FROM DVDTALK.

The movie

The trouble with remakes is that the compulsion to compare them to the original is so strong. In the case of a remake that tackles a relatively recent film, it's even more difficult to avoid the comparison. Lords of Dogtown is such a film: though there's no previous feature film on the topic, it's very much a remake of the 2001 documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys. Chronicling the rise (and sometimes fall) of a group of young toughs in Venice, California who set the skateboarding world on fire with their talent as part of the Zephyr team, Lords of Dogtown follows the trajectory of Dogtown and Z-Boys pretty much to the letter. As to whether you like the results or not, it's down to whether you like seeing this slice of skateboarding history straight-up or acted out.

I'll be up-front and say that while I found Lords of Dogtown to be reasonably entertaining, I don't think it offers anything that Dogtown and Z-Boys doesn't also offer more effectively. Keep in mind that I liked Dogtown and Z-Boys quite a bit, of course; the documentary wasn't perfect, but it was quite compelling and had a very distinctive style, so that it's a lot more memorable than, I think, Lords of Downtown will be.
