The Movie Zodiac kind of sneaked up on me, as I hadn't heard much buzz about it, and I certainly hadn't heard that it was David Fincher's return to the box office, following the stylish thriller Panic Room. As a big fan of Fincher's work, especially his visual style, and a fan of movies and books about serial killers, I was excited to see what Fincher would do with the story of the Zodiac. What I eventually saw wasn't at all what I expected, but was a welcome surprise from a director who obviously doesn't want to be pigeon-holed as an MTV-generation editing junkie, after establishing himself as the king of the MTV-generation editing junkies with his previous films.

Morty has an idea, but it soon goes horribly wrong when he get's too greedy. Cody ventures into Leprechaun's home to save Bridget, but little does he know that a leprechaun's home has many surprises. Let's rewind to the year 1994. If anyone had told you that Kevin Smith's breakout hit, Clerks, would be granted a sequel twelve years later---and on top of that, it'd be a romantic comedy---what would you have thought? Looking back at Smith's résumé, though, it almost seems all too obvious: we saw hints at his softer side during Chasing Amy and even Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, not to mention the more down-to-earth Jersey Girl. Smith also dropped hints about a sequel during the past few years, making the tentative release date official in the Clerks 10th Anniversary Edition booklet. So, as surprising as this film's existence is, we still saw it coming.

The Movie:


"John Q" likely gained the interest of director Nick Cassavetes because his daughter has heart trouble and has been in need of medical attention for years. The story also has the potential of providing an interesting perspective on the nation's healthcare system, the subject of constant debate. While the film certainly has a legion of talented actors and a strong director at the helm, the screenplay is really the one element that lets the film down. Instead of providing analysis of healthcare, "John Q" turns into an action movie where it becomes rather difficult to suspend disbelief as the movie pushes forward.

I'm not positive a discussion of quality could even enter a critique of the new film, "D.O.A." Either you're moved by the fist-first filmmaking pledge or you tune out after the first 30 seconds. No doubt, the film is dumb. Real dumb. Gas-huffing-Elly-May dumb. But I'll be damned if this uncontainable piece of junk didn't keep me entertained for a whole 78 minutes.

Mr. Bean enters a church raffle and wins a vacation trip to France as well as a camcorder. After boarding a Eurostar train and arriving in Paris, the French language proves a barrier for Bean, as he struggles to get across the city to catch a train to the south of France from the Gare de Lyon. Taking time to order a meal, he finds the consumption of a seafood platter to be a challenge. Just before catching his train, he asks Emil, a Russian film director on his way to be a judge at the Cannes Film festival to use his camcorder to record his boarding, but accidentally causes Emil being left behind at the station. Bean attempts to cheer up the director's son Stepan as the train continues south but matters are made more hectic by the fact that Emil has reported his son to have been kidnapped and Bean losing his wallet and essential travel documents at a pay phone where he and Stepan attempt to contact Emil. Heading in the direction of Cannes, Bean finds himself in the cast and disrupting the flow of a commercial being shot by the egotistical director Carson Clay. He and Stepan finally hitch a ride with the young and vivacious actress Sabine who is heading to Cannes to attend the premiere of Clay's film, in which she appears. He then dares her to see if she can get the true story but is more interested in trying to score with her, which is not easy because she has a boyfriend, who is a snob, and who is not too happy with the amount time she is spending with him. The Movie: "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place" (later just "Two Guys and A Girl") was likely one of the most ripped apart TV shows in the past several years. If there was one good thing in the series, it was Ryan Reynolds, an underrated comic actor who has sense of comedic timing like David Spade with the sarcasm turned down a bit.

Thinking of his wife, their young children, and others he loves will be better off with him dead, he contemplates suicide. But the prayers of his loved ones result in a gentle angel named Clarence coming to earth to help George, with the promise of earning his wings. He shows George what things would have been like if he had never been born. In a nightmarish vision in which the Potter-controlled town is sunk in sex and sin, those George loves are either dead, ruined, or miserable. This film is one of those exceptional classics that remains timeless in its message and thoughtfulness. Without a doubt one of the most memorable and beloved films of all time, "Its a Wonderful Life" brings to the screen a fantastic story of self-realization. Its a very sentimental and honest film. The idea that our lives touch so many others in countless powerful ways is the basis for the story. The script started as a short story called "The Greatest Gift" by Phillip Van Doren Stern. He enclosed it in a Christmas card after he failed to find anyone who would buy it from him. A studio finally bought it for $10,000 and tried to turn it into a workable script by several writers and directors. After many failed attempts, it was finally put into the hands of the brilliant Frank Capra and the rest is history. Frank Capra is the talented director of such classics as "Mr. Smith goes to Washington", and "It Happened One Night".
