REVIEW OF FRIENDS THE WHOLE SERIES DVD NOW AVAILABLE

Friends Complete Series I've been debating how to review these complete series sets ever since they were first announced. Since the material on the DVDs (audio, video and extras) are the same, I've decided this review will be about the differences between the season sets, and the complete series release.

The Packaging
It's hard to believe that you can fit all your friends in a red box that's less than a foot long. Wait, that's not correct! It's hard to believe that you can fit all the Friends episodes in a box that's less than a foot long, but that's exactly what Warner Bros has done. 40 DVDs containing 236 episodes can be found inside the pretty red box. The outer packaging is almost identical to The West Wing set, though the Friends set has a rough texture, while The West Wing feels like faux leather. The West Wing had a flap that closed over the lower part of the case (and was held closed with a magnet), while Friends just has two pieces of the box that comes together. Flipping the top up exposes the guts of the set; 6 books, with one for each Friend.

That's right, there are only 6 books to hold the 10 seasons. Each book has a picture of the Friend, a number (1-6), and the episodes you can find in each case. The books flip open from the top, and each disc has its own pouch in the double-sides pages. Every disc has a different photo of the Friend, and they're all inserted into the pouches perfectly so the photo is visible as you flip through the book; the disc number and episode numbers are also visible. The contents of the discs are the same as the previous sets, but they have new artwork.

The Material
Besides the packaging, there's just one thing to note for this release; the book. This 60 page book is your guide to the series, and lists every episode (with synopses), and the disc you can find it on. Of course the bonus material is mentioned along with the disc it can be found on. You'll also get the original treatment for the series written by David Crane and Marta Kauffman. The book, which is as wide as the box, can be found behind the DVD books.

To Upgrade, or Not to Upgrade?
There's very little of value here for someone who has the season 1-10 boxes. The packaging is nice, but not $300 nice (of course that's the SRP - you can find it cheaper), and the book with the episode information is just an upgraded version of the booklets that come with the season sets.

If you don't already own the 10 seasons then this is an easy way to buy the show. The set carries a suggested price of $300, but you can find it for about $185, which means you're paying $18.50 a season (I'm a math wiz), and that's a lot cheaper than buying each set individually. It's also nicer than the box set they released last year, which was the existing 10 seasons in a big box. If you decide to replace your existing sets then you'll be happy to know the set takes up exactly the same amount of shelf space.

  • 10/25 - Mr. Pratt revealed that his O.C. stint has been extended to nine episodes. Kevin Sorbo, is doing a two-episode arc. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide
  • 09/03 - Chris Brown is taking his act from the big stage to the small screen. The R&B sensation, who's been touring with Ne-Yo and a rotating roster of youthful hip-hop stars, is set to join another sprightly cast this fall. "I'm gonna be on 'The O.C.,' "a smiling Brown revealed Wednesday at the MTV Video Music Awards media forum at Radio City Music Hall. The singer says producers for the show contacted his management, and Brown jumped at the opportunity. The Virginia native is set to appear in approximately seven episodes of the fourth season of the drama, which begins shooting in October and airing in November. [...] "I play, like, a band geek — I'm really stepping out of my own character," he said. "I was kind of a geek in school, grade-wise. But style-wise, I was always popular and cool. But [on the show] I'm geeked out all the way. I'm just trying to be myself and then be the character [the role calls for]. I don't look at it like this role takes away from who I am." Source: MTV

VERONICA MARS SEASON 3 SPOILERS

Episode 3.08: Lord of the Pi's
Airdate: November 21, 2006
  • 11/08 - Logan fears for Veronica's safety since she was attacked and takes it upon himself to protect her. Source: SpoilerFix BuddyTV Spoilers Chat
  • 11/04 - Selma Rose (guest star Patricia Hearst), the wealthy grand-daughter of the founder of Hearst College and a member of the Hearst College Board of Trustees, mysteriously disappears the night before she is to cast a swing vote that will determine the fate of the Greek system on campus. Keith, with Veronica's help, is hired by Dean O'Dell (guest star Ed Begley, Jr.) to investigate the disappearance. Meanwhile, Veronica has been rehired as a photographer at the Hearst Free Press, but she and Logan fight over her involvement in the rape case. Percy Daggs III, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen, Michael Muhney, Tina Majorino, Chris Lowell and Julie Gonzalo also star. Source: The CW
  • 08/23 - A storyline on "Veronica Mars" this season will have a trustee of Hearst College, the university Veronica now attends, going missing on the eve of a crucial trustees' meeting about the school's future. Who better, then, to play the part than real-life Hearst heiress and one-time abductee Patty Hearst? Such will be the case in a November episode of "Veronica Mars." [...] Hearst, who's appeared in several John Waters films and on episodes of "Boston Common" and "Son of the Beach," won't exactly be playing herself in the episode. The character, however, is clearly tailored for her. She's the granddaughter of newspaper baron William Randolph Hearst, and on the show she'll play the granddaughter of Hearst College's founder (a timber mogul rather than a newsman). The character's echoes her kidnapping by the radical group the Symbionese Liberation Army in 1974. After several months in captivity, she took the name "Tania" and joined the SLA in a San Francisco bank robbery on April 15 of that year. She was arrested in 1975 in Los Angeles and convicted after a lengthy trial the following year. She served 21 months in prison before then-President Carter commuted her sentence in 1979. Source: Zap2it
  • 08/23 - "We have Patty Hearst booked for Episode 8," declares Rob Thomas, who says John Waters' infamous muse will not be playing herself. "She is playing a character close to herself. She's playing the granddaughter of Hearst College's [founder], who in our world is a railroad baron rather than a publishing baron. [She] goes missing the night before an important vote about the future of Hearst University. It'll be similar, but she is not literally playing Patty Hearst." Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide
  • 07/21 - Rob Thomas revealed: [We] asked Patty Hearst’s agents if she would play a member of the Hearst Board of Trustees. They said ‘yes, absolutely,’ so of course when we got that response, we started thinking ‘Well, what if a member of the board of trustees was kidnapped?!’ That’s gone though our minds as well, so look for Patty Hearst on our show! Episode 3.09: Spit and Eggs
Airdate: November 28, 2006

  • 11/12 - Dean O'Dell (guest star Ed Begley, Jr., "Arrested Development") reinstates the Greek system on campus and, determined to solve the campus rape case, Veronica, along with Mac, Wallace and Piz, attends a party armed with coasters designed to test for drugs in the drinks of her peers. Meanwhile, Dean O'Dell hires Keith to investigate whether or not his wife is cheating on him. Jason Dohring, Ryan Hansen, Francis Capra, Michael Muhney and Julie Gonzalo also star. Source: The CW
  • 11/08 - Someone dies. [The murder will be the second mystery of the season.] Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide
  • 10/28 - Tina Majorino reveals: [Next time we see me,] I think it's the one that we're filming right now, Episode 9, called "Spit and Eggs." This episode is pretty intense because it's wrapping up the rapist mystery, so Mac is helping Veronica finalize her investigation into that. [This episode will also plant the seed for the second mystery of the season. We have kind of seen hints to it already.] But you won't know what it is until you've seen this episode. You've been introduced to the characters, but this one definitely plants the seed, you'll see. Again, it's very intense. Source: TV Guide Online
  • 09/20 - Speaking of the show's first mystery, Rob Thomas broke some semi-big news to me at Monday's bash. "I'm going to direct and write Episode 9, which is the finale of the first mystery." The episode features a new character Rob describes as "the most powerful, frightening, scariest alumni of Hearst College, and I'm trying to get exec producer Joel Silver to play it." The second (and very much top-secret) mystery, meanwhile, will be introduced at the end of that same episode, at which point the show will take a seven-week break (on screen and off) before returning in January. • 11/08 - Lots of filming activity this past week. Last week on Nuuanu Avenue, a bar interior and a London street scene (featuring 1995 concert posters and a military recruiting office). On Sunday, filming inside the Hawaii State Supreme Court Building, with its pillars and marble and hardwood stairs. On Monday, an interior shoot at "Stanwyck's Antiques" (using the same space as Locke's "Walkabout" tour office). But the big shoot is Tuesday, Nov. 7. Fort Steet Mall, a major pedestrian thouroughfare downtown, was transformed into a busy London city street. A London Underground entrance, black taxi cabs, a newsstand and red phonebooth, palm trees turned into noble oaks... Desmond exits Widmore Industries, upset, yanking off his tie and throwing it to the ground. He then comes across Charlie, strumming "Wonderwall" on the corner and collecting change in his guitar case. Then the conversation gets surreal. Desmond is having an epiphany, and seems delirious. "Remember the rain? It happened before!" and "This is happening!" He seems to be having one of his spells of deja vu. Last scene of the day. Same London street, but perhaps a very different time. Desmond is no longer wearing his dapper suit, but rather, a drab coat and scarf, looking somewhat destitute. He's wandering around the entrance to the London Underground, ranting like your typical neighborhood schitzo. He spots and sits next to an elegant, older, white-haired woman in a purple gown. They converse. Suddenly there's a crash! People panic. It's a construction accident nearby, and Desmond stands, distressed. The woman approaches calmly. She gives him a ring. He gives her money. She walks off. Source: The Transmission

Airdate: February 21, 2007

  • 11/14 - A wonderful location shoot in downtown Honolulu turned Fort Street Mall near Hawaii Pacific University into Bangkok, Thailand. Two blocks away, the Indigo Restaurant on Nuuanu Avenue played both a tattoo parlor, and a restaurant. All this appears to be for Ep. 3x09, a Jack-centric episode. The night shoot for "Bangkok" was as colorful as any for "LOST," with signs and lights and sexy dancers. Two days of meticulous setup netted ten seconds of footage, in which a mysterious woman in red walks down the crowded street and turns down a narrow alley. Jack follows. According to a camera operator at the restaurant location, the female guest star opposite Matthew Fox was Bai Ling. Source: The Transmission

General spoilers:

  • 11/08 - Cuse and Lindelof revealed: We have a very clear plan for this season, and I don't think we'll get back to Michael and Walt's story this season. Harold Perrineau's story is not finished. He is not on the show currently, but I think everybody is very curious to know what happened to Michael and Walt, and we hope to get back to that story. That character is still out there in the Lost universe. I think there are some upcoming episodes — after the break in the spring — that will answer a number of the open questions. We certainly plan to tell the audience this year how Locke got in the wheelchair. We'll be getting a lot more detailed about what happened to Locke, Eko and Desmond following the immediate aftermath of the hatch exploding, imploding or potentially doing something else. We're doing a flashback story where you'll find out how Jack got his tattoos. And we'll begin peeling back layers of who the Others are, how long they've been on the island, what their origins are. That's really the sort of uber-plot of Season 3. "What's the nature of this island? Where is this island?" The overarching mysteries of Lost remain unanswered. But those questions have to remain unanswered until the show ends. [Eko might be back and it] might not necessarily be a flashback episode. [What happened immediately after the hatch exploded] might be a flashback, but we're not going to tell you how that information gets relayed. That island isn't necessarily where [the Others] live. It's not necessarily the same place where we saw those guys in the beginning of the teaser of the season premiere this year. I think that would be a very reasonable explanation as to how Goodwin and Ethan could run from the Others' home camp to the crash site [in about one hour. The guy with the eye patch is going to figure prominently this season.] The fact that the island may have been seen [by the outside world] is pretty much the entire story arc of the second half of the year. There are two bombs being dropped [during the second half of the season], one of which is a character bomb, and that will happen within the first three episodes after the break. And the other is a more significant story bomb, a game-changer, as it were, and that will happen shortly after. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide

  • 07/21 - During an interview Carlton Cuse revealed: Penny is an important character in the overarching mythology of the show. The interrelationship between the outside world and the island will be something that will be a part of Season 3. Source: The Ausiello Report
  • 05/14 - Damon Lindelof [reveals]: Libby's got this mysterious backstory, of which we've only given you the tip of the iceberg. We know she's spent some time in the mental institution with Hurley, and the idea of killing her before she had an opportunity to explain how she got there... we have a master plan for how we're going to tell that story, but it's all posthumous. You'll start to learn Libby's moves through flashbacks over the course of the next season. So we're not done with Cynthia, but Libby is dead. Source: The Ausiello Report
  • 05/03 - Lindelof and Cuse: The growth of Malcolm David Kelly (Walt) will be addressed in the 3rd season. You can expect to see more of Rousseau next year, but the story of the wrecked research vessel, it will be coming at some point but we can't guarantee it'll be in Season 3. MONTY BROWN JOINS WWE

ACCORDING TO WWE.COM MONTY BROWN SIGNS A DEAL TO JOIN WWE. HERE IS THE FULL STORY

When former NFL star Monty Brown explodes into action for the first time in a WWE ring, it will be the fulfillment of one of two very vast childhood dreams.

“I had two dreams as a kid,” Brown told WWE.com. “One was to become a professional football player; the other was to become a WWE Superstar. How many people can say they actually lived out both dreams?”

For someone who once crafted their own WWE Championship in junior high school, Brown claimed that signing with WWE is something he swore he would accomplish some day.

“[My classmates and I] made what we called the Wood Class Championship,” Brown reflected. “I still have that belt to this day. I felt that one day I would be working for this company.”

Growing up in a bedroom with wall-to-wall wrestling legends, Brown said that he engulfed his room with posters of greats such as Ricky Steamboat, Mike Rotundo and Harley Race – on one wall. On a separate wall, all to himself was the 16-time World Champion Ric Flair, a man Brown could potentially be meeting one-on-one once he begins his WWE career.

“[In WWE], the competition is deep,” admitted Brown. “But, if you don’t want to be involved with the best on the planet and be involved in a competitive atmosphere, you don’t do what you do. You choose to do something else.”

The thick-framed Brown is no stranger to competition. A collegiate All-American and also former NFL linebacker for both the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots, Brown has competed in Super Bowl games for both franchises.

Following his football career, Brown trained extensively towards his goal of reaching WWE. Under the guidance of the former WWE Superstar Dan Severn and the Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac Sabu, Brown is prepared to blast through Raw, SmackDown or ECW with his unique style.

“This is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,” Brown claimed. “I’m pretty much going to bring a no-nonsense, hard-hitting, take-no-prisoners linebacker style with just a straight-ahead, destroyer-type mentality.”

Despite his confidence in his abilities, Brown said that before he makes his in-ring debut, he will continue to eat, breathe and sleep this business as he closely studies tape after tape of WWE action with his notebook in hand.

“Coming to WWE is a definite blessing and a privilege,” he said. “To come and work for the Mecca of all Meccas, I’m just anxious to start. I’m looking forward to getting in the mix and being part of the WWE family,” Brown added.

“Monty Brown is definitely on his way.”
