HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE 300 FROM IMDB

It is spring, 480 BC Persian King Xerxes, continuing his fathers, Darius, master plan to conquer the Hellenic city-states, arrives in Hellas. The previous Persian invasion and diplomatic attempts have already turned most northern Hellas tribes and states to the Persian side. But the people of Athens and Sparta, the largest Hellenic powers at the time, feel quite insulted by the Persian emissaries requesting their surrender to Xerxes and slay them. In Sparta, King Leonidas consults the local oracle, which gives two options: either a spartan king will have to be sacrificed or Sparta will be burned to the ground. A year earlier (481, BC) a panhellenic consortium of all southern city-states have already recognized the superiority of the spartan army (the best organized and trained army at the time) and have announced King Leonidas supreme commander of the combined Hellenic army. It is then decided that a small force should block Xerxes' way to southern Hellas in the Thermopylae passage. This passage was at that time 12 meters wide. The great historian Herodotus, possibly exaggerating, states that there were 1700000 Persians(their true number could be anywhere around 100000 and 1000000) against 7000 Hellenic hoplites and slaves, including the 300 men of the spartan king elite guard. King Xerxes waited for 4 days for the Hellenes to be frightened and eventually surrender and was quite astonished by his opponents complete apathy who were following their daily program practicing and making their hair! After that Xerxes tried to convince Leonidas to drop weapons, give up his position, kneel before him and live on as a local governor under Xerxes. King Leonidas replied "molon lave", which means "Come and get them". Then the 3 days battle begun with the 300 Spartans, and 700 thespians (the other Hellenes where sent by Leonidas to protect passages to their flanks) slaying thousands of Persians with minimal losses. The whole Persian campaign would have fail if there wasn't Efialtes who showed Xerxes a secret passage to the Hellenic flanks. After a final battle lead by king Xerxes himself the Hellenic force was completely slain and their heroism and glory was written forever in history. From the beginning of the battle the Hellenes buried their dead in the spot they fell dead. After the battle signs where made for the dead of each Hellenic faction. For the pelloponisians generally (including the 300 Spartans) the sign reads(free translation) 'In this place 4000 thousand pelloponisians fought 30 millions), for the 300 Spartans(lakaedaemonians) especially the sign reads(free translation) 'Oh foreigner tell the lakaedaemonians that we are buried here obeying their laws' meaning that they never hesitated and never retreated from the enemy. The impact of the battle was enormous for both sides. The Persians' morale dropped to zero and the Hellenes lost their fear for the Persian conqueror and organized their defense. After several successful battles the Hellenes ultimately defeated the Persian army and repelled their invasion in the Battle of plataea in 479 BC. Written by Harris o Harros

When the ambitious King Xerxes of Persia invades Greece with his huge army to extend his vast slave empire, the brave Ling Leonidas brings his personal body guard army composed of three hundred warriors to defend the passage of Thermopylae, the only way by land to reach Greece. Using courage and the great battle skill of his men, he defends Thermopylae until a treacherous Greek citizen tells King Xerxes a secret goat passage leading to the back of Leonidas's army. Meanwhile, his wife Queen Gorgo of Sparta tries to convince the council to send the Spartan army to fight against the Persians. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE 300 FROM DVDTALK

The Movie: Who by now has not heard the tale of King Leonidas and the brave 300 who kept the uncountable numbers of Xerxes' Persian Army at bay, at the cost of their own lives? And if this glorious feat of ancient history was destined to be relayed only as an aside in history classes around the world, it spurred enough interest in author Frank Miller (best known for The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City) to pen a graphic novel retelling the story, albeit with a twist. And now Miller's version has been immortalized as a feature film by director Zack Snyder (the Dawn of the Dead remake, the director of the upcoming Watchmen adaptation). And while the ads for it certainly looked exciting, no one expected the runaway success the film had in early 2007, making over $70 million in its opening weekend, and over $200 million overall.

King Leonidas of Sparta (Gerard Butler), born and bred for war, is met by a messenger of the Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), hellbent on conquering the known world. The messenger requests that Sparta give an offering of earth and water, as a symbol of their submission to Xerxes' rule. Despite the misgivings of some on the Spartan High Council, Leonidas rejects the offer and prepares to go to war. But before he does, he must get the blessing of the Spartan oracle. Unfortunately, the priests of the oracle have been paid off by Xerxes, and they declare that Sparta is not to go to war under any circumstances. Bound by ancient laws he dare not break, Leonidas makes a desperate gamble and takes 300 of his best warriors to fight, as a personal bodyguard. These men face legions of Persian soldiers, so numerous that their marches shake the very ground. But these Persians face not just men, they face Spartans. And they, they shall learn is no small thing indeed, as wave after wave of Persian attack break against the Spartans like water against rock.

There was a King Leonidas of Sparta. He did lead his army to fight the Persians. At his last stand, he had 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians at his command. The days that Leonidas held off the Persians allowed the Athenian Navy to collect themselves and eventually defeat Xerxes. This is known as The Battle of Thermopylae. Beyond these details, there is very little connecting the actual historical events to 300, whether we're discussing Miller's graphic novel or Snyder's cinematic adaptation. Miller was not interested in a line for line retelling. He used the battle, and the story of the 300 as a symbol. A symbol of freedom, a symbol of glory, pride, and bravery. That he throws in mythical beasts, grotesque creatures, and massive exaggerations matters not. They're included to make the telling more grand, to make the Spartans victory that more astonishing. Furthermore, the Battle of Thermopylae took place in Ancient Greece, in a time where people believed in magic and gods and eastern mysticism. It makes sense that Miller, and by extension Snyder, include some of the more outlandish creatures spoken of in those days.

HERE IS REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE NEW BEGINNING FROM DVDTALK

The Movie:

NOTE: The following review and the accompanying screenshots DO contain spoilers. Proceed with caution!

The cause of some controversy upon its theatrical release based on the intensity and severity of the violence that was so prevalent throughout the movie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning did prove to be reasonably popular at the box office despite the highly touted cuts required from the MPAA for the film to earn an R rating rather than a dreaded NC-17. New Line has now reinserted that grisly footage and put it back into the movie with this un-rated DVD release (those who want the R-rated cut can rest easy, as that version is available as well - albeit as a seperate release).

When the movie begins, a woman gives birth to a deformed baby inside a derelict slaughterhouse somewhere deep in the heart of Texas. The freakish infant is left in a dumpster to die when a woman finds him and takes him home to raise him as her own. Fast forward a few years into the future and the little boy has grown up to be Tommy Hewitt (Andrew Bryniarski, reprising his role from the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to which this film serves as a prequel), a hulking and somewhat retarded man who spends his days working at what one can only assume is the same slaughterhouse where he was born. When that place is condemned by the government and shut down, Tommy refuses to leave until his employer insists he split which lands the poor sap on his deathbed. On the way out, Tommy grabs a chainsaw.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE CRITTERS FROM DVDTALK

It took SIX YEARS before genre auteur Joe Dante got around to crafting Gremlins 2: The New Batch. In the potentially lucrative meantime, various diminutive and highly unruly coattailers eagerly saddled up to the 1984 box-office phenom's meal wagon. The toilet mugging Ghoulies was first into theaters, trailed the following year by the slightly more overt, yet oddly beloved knockoff Critters. It began as the story of eight alien escapees known as "Crites" who lamb it to Earth when an asteroid prison fails to suit their tastes. These toothy creature creations of the Chiodo Brothers then proceed to FEED on hayseeds, lay slimy sequel-friendly EGGS and generally behave badly through four dang-near IDENTICAL flicks. Through the prodding of absolutely no one, New Line's seen fit to usher these dubious classics into the digital domain with both widescreen (1.85:1 anam) and fullframe transfers alongside fresh Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes that may lead sufficiently imbibed

Former superhero Jack is called back to work to transform an unlikely group of ragtag kids into superheroes at a private Academy.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE ZOOM FROM DVDTALK

The Movie

Zoom: Academy for Superheroes is a family-oriented action/comedy about a small group of youthful degenerates turned superheroes. It is based on the comic book "Zoom's Academy". The movie debuted in summer of 2006 and had big names like Tim Allen, Courtney Cox, and Chevy Chase to pull in viewers. In general, the movie was not well received by audiences and had very bad marks from the media. The reason is that "Zoom" is a typical, cliched film with cheap attempts at humor and a storyline seen far too many times. Despite its bad qualities, I enjoyed it (to a certain degree). Read on to find out more...

Once long ago, Zoom (Tim Allen) and his brother Concussion (Kevin Zegers) were part of a top secret government project called the Zenith program. Dr. Grant (Chevy Chase) was the lead scientist on the program. Zoom, Concussion, and three others had shown special abilities as children. The government took them into this project and exposed them to Gamma 13 radiation to make them stronger, faster, and all-around more powerful. At first, everything went well. Zoom and his fellows were successful in their endeavors. Unfortunately, Concussion developed side effects to the Gamma 13 radiation and turned on his teammates. Zoom was able to overcome Concussion and send him into an alternative dimension. But it didn't happen without cost, as Concussion had killed the other team members.

Approximately thirty years later, the world is in need of another superhero team when a new threat emerges. General Larraby (Rip Torn), who runs Area 52 (the military installation that housed the Zenith program), sends Dr. Grant to recall the world's only remaining superhero back into action. Zoom, now in his human identity of Jack Shepard, is out of shape and runs an auto repair shop. Grant and psychologist Marsha (Courtney Cox) convince Jack to help them train a new batch of superheroes in a short time frame of twelve days.

The team of superheroes includes four youthful, troubled kids who have never fit in because of their abilities make them oddballs. Dylan (Michael Cassidy) has the ability to turn invisible. He is a brash, typical bad boy who likes to rebel against authority. Summer (Kate Mara) is an unpopular girl at school because everyone thinks she is weird. She has extensive telekinetic ability and an aptitude for foresight. Tucker (Spencer Breslin) is an obese kid who always is shoving some kind of snack into his mouth. He has an odd power, which is the ability to expand his body at will (imagine a balloon inflating). The last member is Cindy (Ryan Newman). She is a young six year old girl with superhuman strength.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE SICK FROM DVDTALK

When Michael Moore makes a movie these days, all hell seems to break loose. It gets to a point where whatever message he's trying to communicate is drowned out by all the media attention, knee-jerk reactionaries, and general resentment. With "Sicko," Moore is embarking on a topic that is vital to the might of America, seeded with a message that everyone in the country should be, at the very least, aware of. This is health care, and it is killing our nation.

Of course, I've been a great admirer of Moore's for some time, always willing to embrace his big screen pole vaults of satire and acidic truth. "Sicko" comes after the unreal success of "Fahrenheit 9/11," a picture that gave Moore the most power he's ever enjoyed and sent his loudest critics into a spastic, wildly entertaining Curly-shuffle of frustration. It comes as little surprise that Moore, now with the world's attention, has selected the hornet's nest issue of health care for his latest picture.

"Sicko" is a persuasive piece of "informational entertainment," (perhaps "documentary" no longer covers what Moore is trying to accomplish here), picking up a rock and throwing at the fanged, mile-high, tentacled beast called privatized health care. It's a spectacular look at America and the corruption that rots our very core, swallowing the interests of our leaders and mercilessly disposing of our most needy. Did I mention the film is a comedy?

Narrated by and appearing in the second half of the film is Moore, who is astounded that his country is unwilling to fix what clearly is a broken system. "Sicko" isn't a comprehensive argument for repair, but it isn't meant to be. Moore gives the viewer enough examples of failure and deception to cook up a frothy stew of amazement and poignancy, spending time with the individuals instead of a flow chart of indifference. Not every corner of health care is exposed; Moore leaves that minutiae to the political pundits, as they chase their tails to a point of exhaustion and social irresponsibility. Instead, Moore paints a dramatic picture of the way things are headed, and his point of view is shocking.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE DONNIE DARKO FROM DVDTALK

"Donnie Darko" was one of the most talked about films at Sundance last year, a film that looked to be a success story once it eventually released theaters. Unfortunately, the studio didn't seem to be quite sure about how to market a film that largely revolves around a disturbed teenager who recieves prophetic warnings from a large, talking rabbit (possibly the cousin of the Mothman from this year's "Mothman Prophecies".) Newmarket (who also released "Memento") should have built up a wider release, but did not. The film soon dissapeared from theaters, snapped up by Fox Home Video for a DVD release. Jake Gyllenhaal plays Donnie, said troubled teen who, as the movie begins, has just started taking his medication again. Shortly after, the visions begin to appear. Frank, a six-foot-tall individual who wears a bunny suit and an insect-ish face, casually informs Donnie that the world will end just under a month. If Donnie had not ventured into the outdoors to hear more, he would have been in his room, which is demolished by a jet engine that falls out of the sky while he'd taken the stroll.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE THE CONDEMNED FROM DVDTALK

What's worse? A film that celebrates violence or a film that celebrates violence while scolding the audience for celebrating violence? If you feel a little lightheaded at this point, imagine watching a film as thick as "The Condemned" try to solve that riddle.

An ambitious reality television producer is about to take his latest work to the internet. The project is called "The Condemned," and sends 10 death-row prisoners from around the world onto an island to battle to the death for a chance at freedom and for the viewing pleasure of the paying audience. Sent to the island is Jack Conrad ("Stone Cold" Steve Austin), a dangerous man with a secretive past who is more interested in figuring out a way to undermine the program than killing his way off the island.

"Condemned" is a WWE production, the same fine folks who thought "See No Evil" and "The Marine" were worthwhile concepts to push into production. Truthfully, "Condemned" has a quality the earlier films did not share: potential.

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE WAR FROM IMDB

After his partner Tom Wynne (Terry Chen) and family are killed apparently by the infamous and elusive assassin Rogue (Jet Li), FBI agent Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) becomes obsessed with revenge as his world unravels into a vortex of guilt and betrayal. Rogue eventually resurfaces to settle a score of his own, setting off a bloody crime war between Asian mob rivals Chang (John Lone) of the Triad's and Yakuza boss Shiro (Ryo Ishibashi). When Jack and Rogue finally come face to face, the ultimate truth of their pasts will be revealed. Written by CartmanKun@aol.com

HERE IS A REVIEW OF THE MOVIE WAR FROM DVDTALK

The fatal flaw of "War," the lazily titled, frenetically produced Asian gangland thriller starring Jason Statham and Jet Li, is that I don't give two craps about anyone in it. Statham plays a San Francisco FBI agent named Jack Crawford who wants to find the assassin who killed his partner three years ago. Li plays Rogue, the aforementioned assassin who was once trained by the CIA before going, um, rogue, changing his face with plastic surgery (he does it every six months to keep the Feds off his trail), and becoming a freelance killer. Rogue has generally worked for the Japanese Yakuza, but now he has apparently switched over to the Chinese Triad. This change in allegiances from one Asian organized-crime syndicate to another means a great deal to everyone in the movie, primarily because it escalates the war between the two groups. It would appear that Rogue is intentionally pitting them against each other, and this affects how the FBI does its job in bringing them down. Me? I sincerely could not possibly care less who wins in the battle between the Yakuza and the Triad. Honestly. Sometimes people are exaggerating when they say they "couldn't care less," because in truth they DO care at least a tiny, tiny bit, and so they therefore COULD care less. But I am not exaggerating. I genuinely have no interest whatsoever in this conflict.

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE THE NEVER ENDING STORY 2 FROM IMDB

Once again, Bastian is transported to the world of Fantasia which he recently managed to save from destruction. However, the land is now being destroyed by an evil sorceress, Xayide, so he must join up with Atreyu and face the Emptiness once more. Written by Graeme Roy {gsr@cbmamiga.demon.co.uk}

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE THE NEVER ENDING STORY 2 FROM DVDTALK

The Movie:
After the original "Neverending Story" gained an even wider cult following after its massively successful theatrical release in 1984, it became apparent that a sequel might not be out of the question. Director Wolfgang Peterson ("Air Force One", "Perfect Storm") did not come back, nor did any members of the main cast, who had obviously grown up beyond their characters at that point. The results of this 1990 effort aren't quite as imaginative or interesting, but the film still has its moments.
Bastian (this time, played by Jonathan Brandis of the "Seaquest" series) finds himself generally in the same place this time around. He's still not getting along with with the other children in school and this time, he's starting to become at odds with his father. Again, he seeks out the old man's bookstore and, soon, hears the pleas of the Childlike Empress asking the young lad to return to Fantasia and save the day with his imagination once more. The first half seems like simply a Wizard of Oz clone merged with the opportunity to reintroduce the favorite characters from the first picture. Sebastian finds himself with the ability to grant wishes, but not only do his wishes not go well, they're being controlled by an evil witch. Every time Sebastian makes a wish, the witch takes away one of his memories - until he's left with no more. Joined again by Atreyu (Kenny Morrison this time), he sets out to save Fantasia before his memories are wiped clean. Characters like Falcor and Rockbiter make brief cameos.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE NEVER ENDING STORY FROM DVDTALK

The Movie:
I'll always be pleased that my generation seems to be the last one to receive quality family entertainment. Princess Bride, Secret Of Nimh, Goonies, Neverending Story, the list goes onwards. These are pictures that simply aren't made anymore, as studios recognize that flashy animation is certainly cheaper and can return a quick profit. As for the group I've mentioned, "Story" remains one of the best of the breed, a suprisingly creative and inspiring picture that remains as enjoyable for adults as it does for children. It also contains a wonderful message that isn't presented in a heavy-handed way. Suprisingly, it was directed by Wolfgang Petersen, who has been responsible for the classic submarine picture "Das Boot", as well as recent films like "The Perfect Storm". The film stars Barret Oliver as Bastian, a small boy who is attacked by bullies on his way to class and ends up in a bookstore. The owner doesn't like children, but the two eventually discuss books, including a certain book that the shopowner has in his posession. When the keeper's head is turned away, Bastian runs off with the book, but he finds that he's late for class. Hiding out in the school's attic, he begins to read and finds himself involved in a fantasy world called Fantasia. The creatures of Fantasia are an interesting bunch: a rock-biter that eats various kinds of rocks, a racing snail, a flying dragon named Falcor, an anicent turtle and others. Not all is right in the land though, as an evil force called "the Nothing" is sweeping over the land and destroying it. The princess of Fantasia has fallen ill and a young warrior named Atreyu (Noah Hathaway) to find a way to stop "the Nothing" from destroying their world. Meanwhile, Bastian finds that he's a part of their adventures, even though he's never left the room in the schoolhouse.

Swashbuckle is in curious short supply in "Last Legion," a mythology-flavored fantasy epic from Dino De Laurentiis's epic factory, tossed unmercifully into US theaters this weekend with only a wisp of marketing and no press screenings. Treatment typically associated with the kiss of death, "Legion" actually holds a small spark of pleasing adventure, making it passable matinee fare, just don't ask too much from it.

In the declining days of Rome, a young king named Romulus (Thomas Sangster, "Love Actually") is crowned. When evil forces storm the city, the boy, protected by royal officer Aurelius (Colin Firth), is taken to the countryside to find safety with his mentor, Ambrosinus (Ben Kingsley). When it's learned that most Roman forces have been eliminated, it's up to Aurelius to lead his band of men, along with a strange warrior from a foreign land (Aishwarya Rai), to a safe harbor where they can regroup and prepare to fight back. Along the way, Romulus discovers his destiny when he uncovers a special sword called Excalibur, meant only for the bravest of leaders.

There's considerable proof throughout "Last Legion" that some serious coin was spent to bring this peculiar story to the screen. The production didn't skimp out on the details, mounting a lavish costume spectacle that's ready to rumble, yet is assigned a lumbering story to sort out. Frightened to lean too heavily towards the fantasy elements of the plot, "Legion" crumbles when it focuses on banal Roman political maneuvering. There's a multitude of sniveling double-crosses and protracted battle planning in the script, which doesn't hold much interest. With actors in bad wigs and covered in ornate battle armor, taking elongated breaks between the action beats to chat endlessly about political allegiances seems to defeat the purpose of this gallant affair.

In order to overcome his feelings of inadequacy, Roger enrolls in a top-secret confidence-building class taught by the suavely underhanded Dr. P. Aided by his assistant, Lesher, Dr. P uses unorthodox, often dangerous methods, but he guarantees results: Employ his techniques and you will unleash your inner lion. But Roger quickly discovers that star students have a way of catapulting Dr. P's competitive side into high gear. Soon enough, the teacher sets out to infiltrate and destroy Roger's personal and professional life. Nothing is off limits for Dr. P, not even the object of Roger's affection. HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS FROM DVDTALK

The Movie The cover art of many DVDs feature blurbs from movie critics (or people like Larry King who I don't really considered to be movie critics). I typically avoid reading these because, A) I usually don't care, and B) I don't want my opinion accidentally influenced. While watching School for Scoundrels, I thought to myself, "This is like Bad Santa meets Napoleon Dynamite." After viewing the film, I noticed that front cover was emblazoned with a quote from Rolling Stone which states "Bad Santa meets Napoleon Dynamite". Wow! Was this remarkable synergy that we both thought this? No, this is the reaction that most anyone would have while watching this movie, and I can only assume that this was the intention of the people behind School for Scoundrels. But does the movie offer more than this? In School for Scoundrels we meet Roger Waddell (Jon Heder), a shy, goofy guy who works as parking patrol (he's a meter maid) in New York City. A timid man, Roger finds himself constantly intimidated and pushed around by co-workers and even those he tries to ticket. He has a crush on his neighbor, Amanda (Jacinda Barrett), but he's afraid to approach her and he's usually scared off by Amanda's cranky roommate, Becky (Sarah Silverman). Roger's acquaintance Ian (David Cross), tells Roger of a man who can help him. Roger calls the phone number given to him by Ian and receives a mysterious set of instructions informing him to come to a local learning annex and to bring $5000. Roger shows up at the appointed time and finds himself in a class administered by "Dr. P" (Billy Bob Thornton) and his muscle-man, Lesher (Michael Clarke Duncan). Dr. P is an abrasive, insulting man, but he promises that he can make the class full of men, whom he refers to as losers, into confident and successful people. Roger is thrown by Dr. P's approach, but he's desperate for help and he decides to go along with it. Roger stumbles at first, but he begins to find his footing and he is able to assert himself at work and he even gets the courage to ask Amanda out on a date. But, while Dr. P enjoys success, he doesn't like for his students to get too cocky, and soon, Roger and Dr. P are locked in a battle of wills.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE BRING IT ON ALL OR NOTHING FROM DVDTALK

The Movie

So here's the equation: A medium-budget studio release goes on to become a surprise hit, so it only stands to reason that sequel-talks begin circulating. But the immortal rule of sequel-making dictates that you spend less money on the follow-up, which means when you're doing a Part 2 to a mid-budget flick, you're all of a sudden wandering into low-budget territory -- regardless of the fact that Universal is footing the bill.

Extra low budgets mean lesser stars, shorter production time, and less expensive experts -- which means you're now wandering into direct-to-video country. And if we learned anything from the Bring It On sequel, the cleverly titled Bring It On Again, it's that some movies, however profitable, do not warrant sequels. But hey, someone over at Universal figured that "cheerleaders = money," and that's basically how sequels get made these days.

So now with Bring It On Again more than two years gone (and entirely forgotten), Universal decides it's time for yet another pom-pom-romp, this one called Bring It On: All or Nothing. A sequel inasmuch as it deals with high school girls who are cheerleaders, this third entry in the perpetually leering series is precisely what you think it is: redundant, familiar, uninspired, drab, obvious, and endlessly generic. But I suppose the 12-year-old girls might like it ... if only if the flick weren't jam-packed with smarmy crotch jokes and nearly-latent racism.

THE HOST NOW AVAILABLE

THE HOST NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE THE HOST FROM IMDB

The film revolves around Park Hee-bong, a man in his late 60s. Park runs a small snack bar on the banks of the Han River and lives with his two sons, one daughter, and one granddaughter. The Parks seem to lead a quite ordinary and peaceful life, but maybe a bit poorer than the average Seoulite. Hee-bong's elder son Gang-du is an immature and incompetent man in his 40s, whose wife left home long ago. Nam-il is the youngest son, an unemployed grumbler, and daughter Nam-joo is an archery medalist and member of the national team. One day, an unidentified monster suddenly appears from the depths of the Han River and spreads panic and death, and Gang-du's daughter Hyun-seo is carried off by the monster and disappears. All the family members are in a great agony because they lost someone very dear to them. But when they find out she is still alive, they resolve to save her. Written by Plot Summary

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE THE HOST FROM DVDTALK

The Movie
It's the rare monster movie that lets you see the creature right off the bat, and then hides it away, letting the human characters be the stars, and their interactions advance the plot. The Host is one of those films, as it follows the Park family, as it bands together, against the monster and the government, to find their youngest member, Hyun-seo, who was taken by the creature. Along the way, they run into frequent troubles, with everyone they encounter working against them and preventing them from saving Hyun-seo.

The creature, born of U.S. pollution in Korea, is as unsubtle a statement as could be made about the world's view of the United States, as it puts a foreign country in peril through no fault of its own, and when it can't solve the problem, it needs America to step in, take over and clean things up. But the film doesn't obsess over politics (at least for the bulk of the 119-minute runtime,) as it much prefers the Parks' dysfunction over any international scraps, keeping a close eye as frequent screw-up Gang-Du, his siblings, Nam-il and Nam-Joo, and their father Hie-bong, battle each other out familiarity, more than contempt. Unfortunately, focus is not the film's strong point, as it moves in fits and starts, bouncing between Hyun-Seo's struggle for survival in the monster's lair and her family's efforts to save her.

For a film that's peppered with moments of comedy, the more serious scenes manage to maintain a believable tone, thanks to some fantastic audio design and a score that's as tense andnerve-wracking as a Hitchcock film. Throw in some beautifully kinetic and artistic cinematography, and you've got a dramatic cult film that represents the best qualities ofidiosyncratic Asian filmmaking. The final climatic battle between man and beast alone would be enough to earn this film a spot in the film history books, but it's matched in tenacity and monstrous goodness by the opening scene, one of the most original, well-filmed monster attacks in recent history.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE FROM DVDTALK

A History of Violence is one of the better movies of 2005, from one of the few directors left who imbues his films with a distinctive persona. In the middle 1970s David Cronenberg seemed like a tricky young horrorphile concerned with extreme effects and gory ideas. He shared a television interview (included on the Criterion DVD of Videodrome) with directors John Carpenter and John Landis; all three were engaged in making bloody horror films. Of the three, only Cronenberg has consistently had 'something to say.' He made the best Stephen King adaptation in The Dead Zone and proved with his brilliant re-thinking of The Fly that his 70s obsession with grotesque bodily mutations was a relevant theme. His later work has maintained a high level of intelligence while exploring a variety of bizarre, but always human, concepts.

Starting as an 'Everyman' tale, A History of Violence then takes a sideways detour, becoming an exploration of man-as-monster through the story of one very atypical man caught between two radically different identities. I'll try to review the picture without spoiling anything about it; if you haven't seen it yet and want some good surprises, don't even view a trailer. Knowing anything in advance will hurt the film's impact.

THE ULTIMATE GIFT NOW AVAILABLE

HERE IS THE SUMMARY FOR THE MOVIE THE ULTIMATE GIFT FROM IMDB

Jason thought his inheritance was going to be the gift of money and lots of it. Was he ever in for a big surprise. Based on the best-selling book "The Ultimate Gift" by Jim Stovall, the story sends trust fund baby Jason Stevens on an improbable journey of discovery, having to answer the ultimate question: "What is the relationship between wealth and happiness?" Jason had a very simple relationship with his impossibly wealthy Grandfather, Howard "Red" Stevens. He hated him. No heart-to-heart talks, no warm fuzzies, just cold hard cash. So of course he figured that when Red died, the whole "reading of the will" thing would be another simple cash transaction, that his Grandfather's money would allow him to continue living in the lifestyle to which he had become accustomed. But what Red left him was anything but simple. Red instead devised a plan for Jason to experience a crash course on life. Twelve tasks, which Red calls "gifts," each challenging Jason in an improbable way, the accumulation of which would change him forever. Written by Sajbel, Michael O.

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE THE ULTIMATE GIFT FROM DVDTALK

One expects going into a Fox Faith release to be inundated with a heightened sense of melodrama. After all, how better to present messages of hope and love than to mix it with tears and broad depictions of failure and success? "The Ultimate Gift" should be approached with an eye toward expecting the obvious. Only then do the life lessons have a fighting chance to sink in.

Jason Stevens (Drew Fuller, "Charmed") is a lazy trust fund brat with little sense of purpose to his life. When his tycoon grandfather Red (James Garner) passes away, his lecherous family claws away at the fortune, but Red saves his greatest gift for Jason. Through his attorney (Bill Cobbs), Red arranges a series of challenges for Jason, sending him around the globe in an effort to get the young man to better appreciate people and give to the world around him.

"Ultimate Gift" is adapted from the best-selling novel by Jim Stovall, whose story of personal inventory was intended to instill selflessness in people. In movie form, "Gift" won't have that type of reach, but it's not for lack of trying. It's a commendable production that sets lofty goals for itself, yet the film doesn't always have the tools to accomplish everything it sets out to.

Think of "Gift" as "Brewster's Millions," but without the comedy and with more focus paid to issues of the soul. In trying to cinematically cover this idea of the "12 Gifts" that help people connect, writer Cheryl McKay overworks the plot to fold all the messages into a single fluffy feature film. The story of Jason facing his empty existence for the first time is a persuasive one, and is executed well by director Michael O. Sajbel ("One Night with the King"), but there's inconsistency in the storytelling that constipates the overall objective of the piece.

A mysterious epidemic is sweeping the world, but it takes one Washington DC psychiatrist to discover that the disease is extraterrestrial in origin. When her son becomes infected, she and a colleague must work together to find a cure, before the entire world is lost... Written by comicfan

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE THE INVASION FROM DVDTALK

Author Jack Finney's 1955 novel "The Body Snatchers" has been put through more Hollywood adaptations than most similar pieces of literary bubblegum. The odd thing is, a majority of these incarnations turn out to be terrific movies, from the 1956 classic starring Kevin McCarthy ("Invasion of the Body Snatchers") to a 1978 creeper from director Philip Kaufman to Abel Ferrara's lost cult beauty from 1993 ("Body Snatchers"). "The Invasion" picks up the baton for a new generation of moviegoers, but it's a bumpy ride, testing the narrow possibilities of what this story has to offer.

When an American space shuttle disintegrates upon reentry, fragments of the ship are scattered across the country, each one coated with unidentified spores that contaminate anyone it comes in contact with. Carol (Nicole Kidman) is an icy psychiatrist who starts to question the altered mentality of her fellow citizens, clinging to her son and a best friend (Daniel Craig) for answers. Isolated in an alien pandemic, Carol fights to survive the night as thousands of zombie-like, emotionally blank infected start to take over the city, spreading their disease. Trying to protect her child, while staving off the effects of the aliens by staying awake, Carol battles her way to find a safe haven, if there's one still left.

Crafty Hollywood insiders report that "Invasion" suffered from an unpopular initial cut, thus necessitating the introduction of the Wachowski Brothers to write, oversee a re-edit, and film a new ending over a year after production concluded. Even if one wasn't armed with that knowledge, it's obvious that something happened to "Invasion" as it wiggled through the post-production process. To be blunt: the film is one hot mess, filled with crazy editing leaps and narrative holes, with renewed focused placed on hustling through the story as rapidly as possible.

The winged marketing demon that patrols the air of popular culture trying to hustle audiences into seeing problematical product has stuck again, and the title this time is "Georgia Rule." Is he about to scratch the seven year itch? Written by {jhailey@hotmail.com}

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE FROM DVDTALK

Ah, Chris Rock and Eric Rohmer, the two masters together at last. Wait a minute, Rock and Rohmer? If the combination sounds strange to you, "I Think I Love My Wife" doesn't disagree.

Richard (Chris Rock) is man with a great job, two beautiful children, and a wife (Gina Torres) who has long ago stopped paying sexual attention to him. Bored with his marriage, Richard finds himself vulnerable to the charms of Nikki (Kerry Washington), an old acquaintance who has floated back into his life. Richard embraces Nikki's advances under the guise that they're "friends," but when the reality of the potential infidelity hits him at home, Richard must confront his impulses and bad decisions.

French New Wave director Rohmer defined his career making movies about conflicted, morally shaky men, and it's interesting to report that Chris Rock has managed to maintain some of that bastard integrity for his film. Co-writing (with Louis C.K.) and directing "Wife," Rock is looking for a break from the broad comedies he's normally associated with, including his last directorial effort, the amusing 2003 political lampoon, "Head of State."

By writing himself the sad sack role of Richard, Rock is sneaking in a way to expand his career. "Wife" is a comedy, but the elements of drama and other shades of gray are shoveled into the film to lend it some weight beyond the lust for the laugh. I applaud Rock for challenging himself with the picture, but that doesn't mean it clicks.

Updating Rohmer's 1972 film "Chloe in the Afternoon," Rock has cherry picked all the ideas of infidelity and consequence but also lubes up the project with his own sense of humor. "Wife" is profane, awkward, and sprinkled with a strange racial subtext; basically the cinematic equivalent of Rock himself.

Rock doesn't know how to direct this material, and "Wife" can be an erratic moviegoing experience due to his hesitation. One minute the film has some comically dark, yet semi-profound ideas to share on the idea of marriage and the marital neutering of the American male. The next minute, "Wife" is a study in the mine field of fidelity, and the red hot lure of an alpha sexual partner. And in the moments where the picture is least attentive, gags are tossed in that could come from any one of Rock's comedy albums.
