• 09/16 - I've had permission [to reveal] and confirmation from a number of very good sources that the Season 4 premiere of Lost will feature multiple character flashbacks and/or flashforwards. This is something a number of people have speculated about, including myself, due to conflicting nature of the centric episode spoilers for [the] episode. We initially thought this was a Sawyer-centric episode then I got confirmation that it would definitely feature Hurley, well now it seems that both were correct. • 09/11 - Lost was back at the historic YWCA on Richards Street in downtown Honolulu. Interior filming, so not many details. However, several fans spotted and took photos of Jorge Garcia, which would make sense, as the YWCA has played his mental institution several times. Also spotted, Lance Reddick, one of the new faces on the show. He was carrying a briefcase or suitcase, one that you'd think a doctor might carry. Source: The Transmission

• 08/24 - Jacobe reveals: I live in Kalihi, Hawaii. Yesterday, Lost was filming on N King Street by the Discount Store and Tamashiro Market, for those that live in Hawaii. I was able to spot Josh Halloway (Sawyer). So I'm assuming a Sawyer flashback. OR maybe a flash-forward? • 08/21 - Ken Leung [...] is joining the cast of Lost next season, sources confirm. The rumor is that Leung will be playing the recurring role of Russell ([may not be the character's real name]), a brilliant mathematician who is capable of great insights and has a tremendous knowledge across various scientific fields. • 08/01 - First up is the recurring character of Russell, described as a brilliant mathematician in his late thirties who is "capable of great insights and has a tremendous knowledge across various scientific fields." Episode 4.02: Title Unknown
Airdate: February 2008

• 09/12 - Lost was filming along a small streambed at Judd Trail, up Old Nuuanu Pali Road. A perfectly Lost-y jungle location. All the action was out of sight, but it was good to see some familiar faces on the crew. I can only tell you that there was a major confrontation (I could hear yelling echo through the forest), and can rattle of the list of actors I spotted. But I think you'll agree, this simple list alone is enough to get one's heart aflutter. This was a major shoot! Jorge Garcia (who was kind enough to stop and chat), Terry O'Quinn, Mira Furlan (in a nice checkerboard flannel-type shirt), Josh Holloway (who I believe was the aggressor), Michael Emerson (who appeared to have been on the losing end of a fight), Blake Bashoff and Emilie DeRavin. Of course there was at least one baby being carried around. Names overheard but not seen include Evangeline Lilly, "Carla," "Alex," "Karl," and "Fuzzy" (likely stunt pro Robert Moody). During my brief chat with Jorge, he again expressed a great deal of excitement and anticipation for the first few scripts of Season 4, comparing it to Season 1 in richness and mind-blowing moments. He also recalled meeting friends of mine yesterday at the "Santa Rosa" location, summarizing the shoot with a long, delicious, "Whew!" I think it's safe to say fans are no less excited about the return of Lost. My friend Darcy also visited the location later in the day and saw Matthew Fox in a scene with Evangeline and Jeremy Davies. Davies, playing a character named Daniel, was wearing a vest with a blinking light and made a call to someone named George, presumably or supposedly on Naomi's ship. Source: The Transmission
• 09/12 - Jack, Kate and Daniel are hiking uphill through the jungle. When they reach the top of a rise, Jack and Kate sit down to rest while Daniel, who's wearing a black vest with a flashing red light (probably identical to the one Naomi has on when she parachutes down to the island) pulls out some sort of communication device (again, possibly the same as Naomi's "phone") and says something like: "George, it's Daniel. Yeah, my instrumentation went crazy. Seemed like some kind of electrical storm. I'm here with some of the survivors." The rest of the dialog was inaudible, but Daniel and Jack seemed to be saying a lot to each other. The take was rather long, perhaps a full two minutes. Source: Lost Spoilers

• 08/01 - Also recurring is Charlotte, a hot twentysomething who is said to be "precocious, loquacious and funny... a very successful academic who also knows how to handle herself in the real world." • 10/14 - Down in the underground parking lot for the capitol building, near the guard booth and lower entrance off Miller St., a clean-shaven, leather-jacket wearing Jack has a brief conversation with the striking, poised Kate we saw at the end of Season 3. Jack steps away from an older, brown pickup truck, not unlike the one Locke drove in one of his flashbacks, to talk to Kate. There's some awkwardness, but there are also some smiles. Eventually, Jack helps Kate get into a yellow taxi cab, and watches as it drives away. Does this basement parking lot scene come before or after her chaotic courtroom arrival, or even in the same year? Source: Hawaii Blog
• 10/06 - Lost took over much of the Capitol District in downtown Honolulu today, including parts of the Hawaii State Capitol and the nearby Laniakea YWCA. Deep inside the Capitol, a police interrogation. Across the street, a courtroom. But out front, it was a madhouse. It was the trial of Kate Austen, and it was a flash forward. For Episode 4 of Season 4, the Capitol building played a Los Angeles courthouse this morning in a scene so dramatic it was reported to real newsrooms around Honolulu. Action is called. Kate arrives in a black Lincoln Town Car, with Los Angeles police cruiser and motorcycle escorts. A mob of people, plus journalist and TV news crews (news vans from channel 6 and 19 were on the scene), are waiting. The people boo, hiss, shout "Murderer!" from behind the barricades as Kate is ushered inside. At first blush, it sounds like it could be a flashback, relating to one of Kate's many pre-crash crimes. But I have it on good authority that it was indeed a flash forward. although that fact may not be readily apparent as the story unfolds! Source: Hawaii Blog

ALFRED: 40s-50s, Caucasian, British, cool and calm under pressure, knows his place in society and knows how to handle members of the upper classes. BANNERMAN: Mid 40s, any ethnicity, narcoleptic, can fall asleep at the drop of a hat, but has an important piece of information to tell. A very smart technician by trade. BILLY: Mid to late 20s, Caucasian, British, a good buddy to have, willingly to listen but won't take too much gruff before he'll knock you in line. FOLEY: 40s - 50s, any ethnicity, British, physically fit, tough task master, unrelenting. A performance reminiscent of R. Lee Ermey in "Full Metal Jacket". • 10/14 - Chandley Price - mid 30s to early 40s. Female. She is tough, no-nonsense and beautiful in an unadorned way. She is a therapist by profession and yet could benefit from some therapy herself. The qualities that make her a leader and effective at seeing into other people also cause her problems in her own life -- she can be overly controlling and obsessive. General spoilers:

• 10/14 - Fisher Stevens is joining ABC's Lost in the recurring role of Minkowski, a mysterious character alluded to several times toward the end of last season and ultimately heard over the phone when Jack made contact with Not Penny's Boat. The name Minkowski, the Hollywood Reporter notes, could be an allusion to German mathematician Hermann Minkowski, whose concept of a fourth dimension - time - played into Einstein's theory of special relativity. • 10/14 - Jorge Garcia confirmed that there would be another death this season. Source: The Fuselage
• 10/02 - Executive producer and co-creator Damon Lindelof said the fourth season will continue "to answer and ask a lot of questions." But, he added, "season four is going to be a whole new show in a lot of ways. We're really excited with what we're doing and hope that it'll offer as many surprises as the finale did." Among the spoilers Lindelof revealed: "Michael is coming back. Definitely. As for Walt, we've always known Malcolm was going to grow faster than we could shoot the show. And we planned for it. Trust us. Please trust us." The show's producers have already figured out what they will do with the mysterious character of Jacob, who was introduced at the end of season three. Picking his words carefully, executive producer Carlton Cuse said, "Yes, we do know how Jacob will be depicted. Notice the careful wording of my answer. And no, Jacob did not appear before he was met by Locke." Cuse also declined to say whether an actor had been chosen to portray the character. Flashbacks will continue to explain the backgrounds of some of the characters, but there will also be glimpses into the future, the producers said. The producers said that it is inevitable that the time-bending story of Lost will continue to use looks both backward and forward. "It's absolutely inevitable, not to migrate completely away from flashbacks, but at least to find a new paradigm for storytelling that changed up the nature of the show," Cuse said. "Moving forwards, you'll get a mix. Every week will hopefully be a guessing game as to not just who will be focused on, but when we're focusing on them. Flash-forwards will be a part of season four, yes." The reverberations of the death of Charlie Hieronymus Pace, played by Lord of the Rings's Dominic Monaghan, at the end of the last season will inevitably continue at the beginning of season four. • 09/30 - For at least the third time within a week, the production crew for Lost returned to the historic Laniakea YWCA building on Richards Street, across from 'Iolani Palace. For the show's many character flashbacks, this beautiful building has served as everything from a mosque to a French restaurant, but most notably as a mental institution. I have a feeling that the recent shoots may have the building playing a different character. With the filming taking place inside the meeting rooms on the third floor, there wasn't much to see but the crane-mounted spotlights. Though things didn't get rolling until sunset, the lights could have easily helped create a daytime scene within. Evangeline Lilly was spotted at the location, as well as this actress, who took a smoke break out on the balcony. Look familiar? More photos from today's shoot can be found here. Lost was at the YWCA on Monday morning, too, similarly secluded from passers-by. But I did see Jorge Garcia and Matthew Fox making their way across the street. Spotting them together has got fan gears spinning. Since it seems unlikely Hurley and Jack met prior to the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, chances are they were filming one of the promised "flash forwards." But, trailers indicated accommodations for "Jack" and "Hurley," and sure enough, I spotted the pair leaving the building just as I was leaving for work. • 09/26 - It appears that episode 2 or 3 is going to be Sayid centric: I was in downtown Honolulu today (Saturday 9/22) and they were filming Lost. It was suppose to be in Germany. They had snow (shaved ice) all over the road. Some of the security said it was a Jack scene. It was not, it was Sayid. There was no dialog I could hear, just Naveen crossing the street several times. • 08/28 - Executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse tell EW.com that Jeff Fahey - a cult-pop fave most famous for The Lawnmower Man and most recently seen in Grindhouse - has been added to the show. The situation is going to be very intense this year. Charlie wrote on his hand not Penny's boat , and the message he wrote on his hand was very important. • 07/27 - The Comic-Con Lost panel started off with a clip featuring Ben calling the Others a "rebel sect" and Tom (M.C. Gainey) saying "By the time you see this, I will be dead." Then, a voice-over in the clip revealed "The survival of the Island is now at stake. Carlton Cuse told that Rachel probably won't be on the Island. Cuse and Damon Lindelof warned fans to not get too attached to the character of Richard Alpert because actor nestor Carbonell is part of the regular cast of the new CBS show Cane. Cuse said that flashbacks and flashforwards will both be part of the upcoming season. Lindelof nodeed furiously when asked if Jack and Claire would find out they are related. He also confirmed that Ben and Henry Gale had words. The duo revealed that Harold Perrineau is indeed returning as Michael Dawson but they don't want to reveal how or when he returns; however, Damon Lindelof claimed that he would return ealy in the fourth season. Lindelof added that "[Michael] too some extreme actions" and that his story is about the power of the Island to be redemptive. Cuse confirmed that it is their "intention to get to Libby's story this year." They revealed that "there are important things going on in Danielle's story and they have to sync up." They will work on syncing those things this season or the next one. Lindelof confirmed that the whole deal with the moster will be answered. The Lost panel present a never-before-seen Dharma Film. It is hosted by Marvin Candle but the man presents himself as Dr. Edgar Halifax [Note: It sounds more like Haliwax]. The film is about bunnies but more specifically about Bunny #15. Candle indentifies this station as Station 6, The Orchid. Then, he goes on to say that the viewer has probably realized by now that he or she is not working at a mere botanical research unit. He apologizes for making him or her lie to friends and family members about the nature of the work. He mentions something that sounds like "Kasimir effect" and mentions the "unique properties of the Island." Then there's one of Jacob's subliminal messages. It may have been some variation on "as Jacob loves you." Then there's a bunny riot. One of the station's alarms blares, Dr. Halifax/Marvin panics. There's an intercut clip of someone riding a bicycle. The clip is inserted upside-down, and the rider appears to be in the village of Otherville... And then, amid the chaos (perhaps this is the Incident?), the filmstrip slides off the reel. Here is the translation of is answer: No, there are no rules in Lost. Certain episodes will have flashfowards, others will have flashbacks, others will have neither. It will depend on the nature of the story, of what Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse will write with the writers. • 02/12/2006 - Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof reveal: Given everything else we have to tell, [Libby’s story] is going to be a mystery that's going to have to get answered in year 4. There's really one significant missing piece to Libby's story. We saw in the season finale last year that she met with Desmond, she gave him his boat, and we know that her husband died — and then we know that subsequent to that, she spent some time in a mental institution, the same one as Hurley. The question the audience wants answered is, How did she get from A to B — from Desmond to the mental institution? A woman named Ruthie comes to the ER because of an injured foot. The doctor learns that Ruthie has been on an extreme regime and training in order to lose 40 pounds. Ruthie and her fiancé Will admit that they agreed to get married when Ruthie lost 40 pounds. In exchange for the sacrifice, Will would quit smoking. The doctor tells the couple that, besides the foot injury, Ruthie has two other fractures. In order for the repairs to hold and recovery to be faster, she will need to eat. After vomiting, she is brought in surgery. Later, the doctor finds Will smoking. He says that Ruthie will forgive him. Thing is, Ruthie died because her body was too weak. When the doctors don't want to perform this wacky surgery, the man takes matters in his own hands. Ryan, a deaf kid who has a lot of tricks and some lies in his bag, wants to have hearing aids implanted inside his ears and hopes that the doctors will do it pro bono. HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE EASTERN PROMISES FROM DVDTALK

There are several moments in "Eastern Promises" that warrant discussion. The bloodletting that opens the film, for example, or the way someone puts out a cigarette with his own tongue before casually cutting up a corpse. You remember things like that. But you will also remember -- and probably discuss in the most depth -- the scene in which a completely naked Viggo Mortensen engages in a brutal hand-to-hand fight in a bathhouse. There are good reasons for Mortensen to be naked in the scene, both thematically and from a story standpoint. The movie was directed by David Cronenberg, whose films are often extreme but seldom gratuitous. Here Mortensen plays Nikolai, a chauffeur for Russian mobsters in London who is well on his way to becoming a wise guy in his own right. Bathhouse meetings are traditional for men in this profession because they allow you to see the tattoos -- and thus the career history, almost like military medals -- of the men you're negotiating with. It also means, in Nikolai's case, that he is completely vulnerable. We've all had nightmares about being naked, but it's usually not the nudity that's alarming; it's the fact that we're naked when we shouldn't be. Imagine being attacked by armed thugs. Now imagine it happens when you're defenseless, nude, and in a slippery room surrounded by hard tiles and sharp-cornered benches. Watching this scene, which would be ghastly even if everyone were fully clothed, you can't help but recoil at the tension of it. That's part of the power of "Eastern Promises," Cronenberg's absorbing and entertaining (yes, entertaining) look at the laws of crime and violence and ethics. So much of what happens is surprising or frightening, but Cronenberg doesn't draw undue attention to that aspect of it. He's just telling a story; this is simply the world of the characters. It's only afterward that you can step back and appreciate just how twisted the whole thing is.

The direct-to-video feature "Superman: Doomsday" is the first of three scheduled projects that will retool established characters for older fans, intentionally attracting a PG-13 rating and offering up more mature subject matter, to be released not through Warner Family Entertainment, but through the studio's new Warner Premiere division. It sounds like a good idea: allow the well-respected creative team-up of Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics the chance to branch out into more complex subject matter, unhindered by the limitations that come with making children's programming. Unfortunately, aside from a very few admirable yet limited exceptions, "Doomsday" doesn't do much with the opportunity at all, while its story disintegrates into such an outright mess that the film ultimately becomes the first all-out flop for the Warner/DC team. (Sure, you can argue that last year's "Superman: Braniac Attacks" was a failure, but that effort was merely forgettable, while "Doomsday" is straight-up bad.) "Doomsday" is Warner/DC's long-awaited attempt to bring the "Death (and Return) of Superman" storyline to the screen. But how do you cram a story that stretched over 38 comic book issues into a movie that runs under 80 minutes? Not very well, apparently. For starters, you know you're in trouble when one of your two title characters is only in a third of your movie - and it's the wrong third. To call your movie "Superman: Doomsday" implies that we'll be dealing entirely with the Doomsday portion of the "Death of Superman" saga, either leaving the "Return of Superman" angle for another film or whipping up some new, non-death ending. (Spoiler alert! In "Death of Superman," Superman died. Go figure!) And what a great film that could have been, with a long, slow build-up to archvillain/megabeast Doomsday's eventual arrival, the entire third act devoted to the mammoth battle between titans. The filmmakers could have even killed off Supes in the end, only to follow with a sequel bringing him back. Instead, we get a movie that wants to squeeze in the whole affair, from "Death" to "Return," but without expanding the running time to fit. This means: Doomsday's arrival is rushed, with very little impact on the viewer; the Superman/Doomsday battle, while impressive, is over all too early, essentially deleting the title character from his own movie; the rush to get on with the funeral and return means Doomsday's defeat is utterly unexplained (he just sort of disappears completely after he's punched out, and the very notion of mentioning what happened to him - or that he even mattered to the storyline! - is forgotten within thirty seconds); the remaining too-tight running time means the "Return" storyline must be massively condensed in all the wrong ways, leaving us bored and frustrated with the mess on hand. (It should also be noted that for all those efforts to tweak the story for movie form, the producers remain too faithful to the parts of the story that don't work. As in: Mullet Superman. Really, Warner Animation? Really?)

The Movie:

At this point in time everyone knows how Snakes On A Plane came to be – a few movie execs were joking around about the worst pitch imaginable, the title came up, the internet blew it sky high, New Line added more sex, violence and bad language and voila. With so much hype around the movie there was no possible way that it would live up to everyone's expectations but even with (or, perhaps because of) the movie's huge plot holes, stereotypical cookie-cutter characters and insane logic gaps, the movie turns out to be a perfectly enjoyable action-horror hybrid. High art it is not, but it's a great beer and pizza movie.

When the movie begins, a surfer named Sean Jones (Nathan Phillips) is driving around Hawaii on his dirt bike and sucking back some Red Bull when he comes across a gangster named Eddie Kim (Byron Lawson) in the midst of killing someone who got just a little too close to him. Unfortunately for Sean, Kim sees him and sends his cronies after him – they can't leave any witnesses alive. Sean heads back to his apartment (which is stocked with more Red Bull) and just as he hears someone breaking in through the front door he heads out back and meets Neville Flynn (Samuel L. Jackson), an F.B.I. agent who has somehow managed to find out what's happening and arrive just in time to save him from certain death.

After Flynn and his partner convince Sean to testify against Kim, they decide to fly him back to Los Angeles where the trial is going to happen. They commandeer the first class section of a big ol' jetliner and, with the rest of the supporting cast tucked firmly away in coach and a witty pilot named Rick Archibald (David Koechner) in the cockpit, they leave Hawaii for the lengthy trip over the Pacific Ocean to sunny California. Unfortunately for everyone on board, Kim has somehow managed to get a gigantic box of poisonous snakes on the plane and has had all of the lei's that the passengers were given by the airline doused in a pheromone that is known to make snakes unusually aggressive. Once they're up in the air, the snakes are unleashed and Neville has to take charge of the situation to make sure that he gets Sean safely to L.A. while trying to save as many innocent civilians as possible. Thankfully, he's not completely alone – there are four members of the flight crew (Lin Shaye, Julianna Margulies, Sunny Mabrey and Bruce James), a rapper (Flex Alexander – a great name for an action figure!) and his two body guards, a couple of kids flying alone for the first time (Curtis Brown and Tommy Brown), a cute but ditzy rich chick with a dog (Rachal Blanchard), a snooty English dude (Gerard Plunkett) who doesn't like Americans or the rich chick's dog, and a young foreign lady (Elsa Pataky) and her newborn baby. Oh, and there's a competitive kickboxer (Terry Chen) on the plane too, but he doesn't really do much.

While Jackson's screen presence and penchant for chewing through even the thickest of scenery are reason enough to give this a look, the best part of the movie is the creativity and complete stupidity of the snake attacks themselves. You wanna see a couple who smoke a doobie and try to join the mile high club get attacked by snakes? You got it. Why not have the snake chomp down on her titty while you're at it! Maybe a guy should go to the rest room and take a leak and a snake should jump out of the toilet and bite his wang... yep, they thought of that too. Snakes are all over this plane, biting women in the eyes and fat black dudes on the ass with reckless abandon. You've got big snakes, small snakes, in-between snakes - snakes of many colors, shapes and size are all here, and they're all biting people like crazy.

If you're the type of viewer who wants realism in their cinema, Snakes On A Plane is not the movie for you. Even if you're able to suspend your disbelief easily enough, it's hard not to scratch your head wondering why certain characters do what they do or even how exactly the snakes got on the plane undetected in the first place. There are so many flubs in the film that it's hard to keep track of them all, and nothing really happens for any logical reason here. The characters are all stereotypes of some sort (with Jackson playing the stereotype of himself) and the dialogue and actions of these stereotypes play exactly as you would expect them to. That being said, Snakes On A Plane is a lot of fun. It's a big, dumb trash film that works in elements from disaster movies, horror movies, and action movies with plenty of darkly comic touches. The end result is a sort of tasty can of cheap genre stew. Not something you'd order at a fancy restaurant, but a tasty meal of a movie that warms your belly and which satisfies your hunger.

And the big game at the end of January -- which in real life would be the Super Bowl -- is just called the "championship game." In other words, the most likely scenario is that the NFL wouldn't let Disney use any of its teams, logos, or trademarks. I mention this because how bad does a movie have to be for an organization that employs mostly felons and miscreants, and which will put its name on just about anything, to want nothing to do with it? This is the kind of movie that Disney used to make a lot of back in the day: live-action, simple-minded, aimed at children, and kind of stupid. The difference is that at least the old movies usually had a goofy supernatural element to them, like donkeys kicking field goals, or boys turning into dogs, or Tommy Kirk being interested in girls. "The Game Plan" is allegedly set in the real world, with the normal laws of physics and logic being applied ... which makes it disappointing when nothing makes sense anyway. Former wrestler/current Vin Diesel impersonator Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays star Rebels quarterback Joe Kingman, a narcissistic showboater who makes full use of his swingin' bachelor pad and his millions of dollars of discretionary income. His life is turned upside-down, and he learns valuable lessons about What's Really Important, when he finds out two things: 1) he has an 8-year-old daughter; 2) he has to take care of her for a month. The girl is named Peyton (Madison Pettis), and since this is a Disney movie, Joe was actually married to her mother years ago: She was newly pregnant when the divorce became final, and she never told Joe about it. Now she's run off to Africa on a humanitarian mission and dumped Peyton at his apartment, without notice, accompanied only by a letter informing him of her existence and asking him to take care of her for a month. If you see a lot of implausibilities in this situation and immediately start questioning things, then you are smarter than the characters in the movie, who just sort of go, "Really? Huh. That's weird," and then forget about it. That includes Joe's conniving, no-nonsense agent (Kyra Sedgwick), who really should be smarter. Peyton is a precocious 8-year-old (I believe "precocious" is the only style of 8-year-old that Disney produces) with a fondness for classical music, ballet, and TV shows about ponies. Needless to say, she totally wrecks super-manly Joe's lifestyle! She puts a tutu on his dog! She takes a bubble bath that fills the whole bathroom with bubbles! She leaves her doll on the floor, and stepping on it causes Joe -- the most athletically gifted football player in America -- to slip frantically and land flat on his face!

HERE IS A REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE UNBREAKABLE FROM DVDTALK

Unbreakable was a largely underrated movie that came out late last year from the creator of The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan. I was not able to see the movie when it came out in the theaters because of a death in the family and I was quite excited to get my hands on this DVD. If you've ever been into comic books or are a former or current comic book collector, you should like this film quite a bit. The two people I watched this with were neither and they both liked it as well. Unbreakable is the story of David Dunn (Bruce Willis), a football security guard that seems to have a normal life. He and his wife (Robin Wright Penn) are on the mend, he's looking into finding a job elsewhere and there's a son in the picture as well. The beginning is set on a train where Dunn is talking to the woman next to him. Next thing you know, the train has derailed. We go to the hospital with the mom and son and find out that David survived the derailment without a scratch on his body while everyone else on the train died. So, why did he live through the train wreck and why, from the best of his knowledge, has he never been sick? This is when we meet Elijah Price, the other main character in the movie. Elijah has a condition where his bones easily break. He owns a comic book shop called "Limited Edition". Elijah is very serious about his trade. A man comes in saying he is buying an art piece for his son who is very young and Wood tells him to get out because the son would not give it the care it needs. Elijah believes everyone has an opposite person in this world that has strengths where the other has weakness. He believes he's found his opposite person in David Dunn. Elijah contacts David about him possibly having superpowers, but David brushes him off. Elijah goes to many lengths, including breaking himself severely, to prove that David does indeed have these superpowers. But does he? That's the setup for the movie. The rest of the movie is David testing out whether he truly has superpowers and what this would mean for his life and his family's life. There are some very shocking and uplifting moments in the film, but you'll have to watch it as I feel I cannot give spoilers out in case people have not watched it. I was really intrigued by the movie and think it is a well written story that moves slowly, but not enough for you to tire of it. At its base, this movie is a character development study and it succeeds well. I've heard the critiques about the swerve at the end. I personally thought the movie ended wonderfully, but it honestly was not as much of a shock as The Sixth Sense was the first time I saw it. I highly recommend this movie and I also highly recommend watching it at least another time just like The Sixth Sense.

"Bandits?" The "Bad News Bears" remake? "School for Scoundrels?" Does anyone need further proof that perhaps Billy Bob Thornton is a comedy wet blanket? If so, "Mr. Woodcock" is a fine addition to that list; the entire film reliant on the deadpan glare of Thornton and his anvil-like touch with a punchline.

After suffering years of humiliation at the hands of his hard-ass gym teacher Mr. Woodcock (Billy Bob Thornton), John Farley (Seann William Scott) has grown up to become a best-selling self-help author, urging his readers to put their past behind them. Returning home to Nebraska to enjoy the local "Cornival" and accept a citizenship award, John finds his widowed mother (Susan Sarandon) has become engaged to Woodcock, leaving him with the desire to break the two up and ruin Woodcock's life forever.

Shot over two years ago, "Woodcock" should be treated more as a studio misfire oddity than a coherent feature film. It's a hodgepodge of comedy and melodrama, stapled together by massive reshoots, and sold as a dangerous autumn farce (they say cock in the title, hee-hee!). Of course, following a randy summer of "Knocked Up" and "Superbad," "Woodcock" is about as tame as a WB pilot, and retains about the same level of production value. It's a sitcom immersed in the wit of its two lead actors. Too bad those guys are Thornton and Scott.

Purists looking to tear apart this update of Neil Simon's 1972 screenplay, "The Heartbreak Kid," should relax and embrace what the Farrelly Brothers have done with the material. Blending Simon's work with their own frothy brew of filth, they've turned the "Kid" into a scream.

Eddie Cantrow (Ben Stiller) is hungry for love, but unable to find a woman who fits his needs. Into his life comes Lila (Malin Akerman), a gorgeous creature who Eddie can't believe is as perfect as she seems. To avoid a job relocation, Eddie and Lila quickly marry and head to Mexico for their honeymoon. It doesn't take long for Eddie to sense Lila's repulsive personality quirks, which only worsen over the course of their trip. Finding himself in deep martial trouble, Eddie finds comfort in the company of Miranda (Michelle Monaghan). As romance starts to blossom between the two, Eddie contemplates how he can get rid of his wife.

After a steady stream of PG-13 efforts, "Heartbreak Kid" orders Peter and Bobby Farrelly back into the warm waters of the R rating. This is the Farrellys of "Something About Mary" fame, returning an exquisite edge to their comedic pursuits. "Heartbreak" also brings Stiller back into the fold, and the coupling couldn't be more fruitful. For Stiller, last seen in the entertainment whiffle ball "Night at the Museum," "Heartbreak" allows him a chance to raunch it up as well.

While keeping Simon's structure, the new "Heartbreak" quickly tears off to become its own creature. This is a comedy about bubbly energy and smutty delight. It's the Farrellys picking up where they left off with 2000's "Me, Myself & Irene," dishing out a line-up of audience-goosing bits; spiky material that returns a little of the water-cooler visibility they used to enjoy (two words: donkey show).

The character of Lila alone is more than enough ammo for the directors, exploring her acrobatic and uncomfortably violent sexual desires, personal grooming habits (or lack thereof), and the character's general penchant for deviated septumless slapstick. Sold with impressive bravery by Akerman (truly the MVP of the film), Lila's sequences are the barnstormers of "Heartbreak" that pinch the viewer raw.
